From what I can gather, it has a strainer just above the sump. Some sugest cleaning the strainer. Has someone done this with good results?

Looking info on servicing the autobox on a LJ78. I'm particularly interested in the location of the filter and where to buy it from. Any help would be apreciated.

Hi, just wondering if someone with Lexus V8 conversion can share some knowledge. I'm interested to know if you are happy with conversion, how did the conversion change your insurance (money) and also, how much road tax do you pay now. PS, is the mpg's the same as the old 2.4 diesel engine?

Have a look on youtube about capabilities. But it's vehicle I would certainly get. That engine is widely used. Jeep cherokee, audi, merc, and maybe a couple of others that I didn't mention.

If you have Asda near you, and providing they still sell it, I got mine for £12. Not state of the art as I thought I'll do more driving than walking:grin:

Thanx Graham, but I think chicken teeth is more available than a manual LJ78:grin:. Only seen one so far for sale in the UK. It is just an idea that I thought was worth exploring.

Thanx for the feedback, I'll do some more homework. I saw a manual box and transfer box for £275 and £30 for brake and clutch pedal. My autobox have a bit of a lazy changeover from 3rd to overdrive. Thought if a replacement is due at some point, I might as well look at manual conversion option.

I'm looking to change my LJ78 from auto to manual. Interested to know if the LJ70 manual box will be a straight fit without adjusting to much especially with front and rear propshafts. Thank you for the input.

I have 1991 Lj78. I bought it with ugly looking air scoops turned around on the bonnet. Have replaced them with just standard vent plates. Given the history of LJ78 overheating, I have driven my LJ78 very hard to experiment with temp. and I can say that if overheating was a problem in the past...

Need some feedback. Looking for a LJ78. Seems like the 2.4td is somewhat much more available than the desired 3.0td. You guys with the 2.4td, do you feel the motor being powerfull enough? ie can you at least do legal speed limit of 70mph easy on motorway? Not looking for the fastest car around...
