    The infamous glow plug light

Thanks for the input everyone. Maybe the relay is fine then. I'll have to pull the battery and have a look tomorrow. Any idea what might trigger the light to go on then? I guess I'll have to start digging through the manual to troubleshoot the rest of the system. Thanks for the assistance.

Why do i not see more barn doors

There are quite a few 80 series here in Uganda with the Ambulance doors. I think most of them are 5 seaters with the 1HZ.

    The infamous glow plug light

Just to follow-up for those searching this thread in the future, I installed the starter solenoid in the link I provided above and it worked for a few hours and the light ended up coming back on. I haven't disassembled but I'm assuming the relay wasn't large enough so I'm going to order a couple...

    ABS light stays on...

Just for future reference, here is a video of the test along with the corresponding codes: Basically, you use a paperclip to jumper the "E1" and "Tc" pins in the little black "Diagnosis" box under the hood. You then turn on the ignition and count the corresponding flashes which reveals which...

    The infamous glow plug light

Would something like this work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004AR1F4E/ref=crt_ewc_title_srh_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A13H5QHGBAEUYH Having the exposed terminals makes me nervous but I'm having trouble finding something with similar mounting, terminal studs and a cover.

    The infamous glow plug light

12 volt but how many amps? Were you able to find one that fit within the OEM hole pattern? If you could provide a link with what you purchased or what you recommend purchasing it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much for your help!!!

    The infamous glow plug light

Thanks Frank. I'm in Uganda so unfortunately I'm on my own. I was looking on the part number schematics and as best as I can tell, Toyota shows the part as unavailable. Has it been discontinued or replaced? The part number I show is: 28610-65100. Is that correct?

    The infamous glow plug light

Hi Mike, Sorry to drag up an old thread but I figured any recommendations you or others can provide would be helpful to me and others in the future who are in the same situation. Were you able to find a less expensive substitute or did you stick with OEM? Any alternative part numbers you can...

    Turbo Light Burned Out?

Hi, I just purchased a 1996 80 series with the 1HD-FT here in Uganda. Sadly, she's been neglected here in Uganda. I've got a long list of things that need to be sorted out on her, one of which is the turbo light which doesn't illuminate with the ignition key on. Is there a way to confirm the...

    Hello from Uganda

Hello, I'm Matt. I've posted a couple times previously but just recently purchased a 1996 80 series Land Cruiser with the 1HD-FT engine here in Uganda. As with all but a select few vehicles here, she's been neglected during her life here so I'm hoping to learn more about the Land Cruisers and...

    1KD-FTV Turbo Issues

My experience with 3.0l diesel Prado engines is very limited but for what it's worth this car felt extremely unpowered compared to the 1998 1KZ that I test drove. I could be wrong (or paranoid) but it didn't feel like the turbo system engaged properly.

    1KD-FTV Turbo Issues

Hi, I'm looking at a used 2001 Prado with the 1KD-FTV engine that is in overall good condition but upon test drive it seems to be very under powered. I'm not very familiar with these particular engines but I noticed that the turbo doesn't appear to spool up until about 2800-3000 rpm. I've...

    70 series 3rd row seat?

Hi, My family and I will be moving to Africa next month so I'm in the process of deciding what vehicle to buy. I'm considering a 15-20 year old Prado but have my eyes on a 2000 70 series LX 4 door with a diesel (which personally, I'd prefer). My main question is: Is there any way to put a 3rd...
