    Smoking BJ41

Hi I am getting smoke and some oil from the engine breather pipe. Not noticed it before, so either now more or I have just been unobservant! I can't remember the last time I looked under it while engine was running! Is this worn rings and an engine rebuild? No noticable loss of oil on dipstick...

    Front axle noise.

Yes made sure shims went back where they came, preload seemed ok. By centre arm do you mean on the steering? Noise not related to operating steering.

    Front axle noise.

There was oil in diff, drained into washup bowl then poured into 5lt oil container, about 2lt, should have been 2.5lt. Inner seals replaced.

    Front axle noise.

I have had a bit of a oil leak the front axle for a time - should of done something about it before now! Also had developed an occasional metallic rubbing noise on left side front, heard when freewheeling a slow speeds. No noise or free play in bearings when rotating wheel by hand. It didn't...

How to find year of manufacture

Hi kaz. A good looking truck. What size are those tyres? I reckon mine needs bigger ones! Mine is also a recent import to the UK, did yours come from Japan?. To get mine registered I needed an original copy of the Japan export certificate and DVLA accepted the year on that. Steve

    I have brought a BJ41!

Hi Roger, All sorted, UK agents had the original export certificate! Don't know why they only sent me digital copy! Once I had original there was no problem registering vehicle, reg number EEL825T. Now in use regularly, car shows, local trips, even take it to supermarket just so I can drive it...

    Steering Knuckle Seals

Hi Rodger - nothing very interesting I imported it myself, this year. Quite a lot of cars that are not available in UK are imported from Japan, either privately or by dealers, they are known as "grey" imports. About 15 years ago I had Mitsubishi Delica L300 4x4 that I brought at an auction in...

    Steering Knuckle Seals

Hi. Yes, I posted on facebook as well as here. Thanks for info, should now be able to track down parts. Don't know when I am going to find time to fit them!! Meanwhile I have put more moly grease in knuckles and topped up diff - needed over a litre! My BJ41 was imported from Japan to UK. Steve

    Steering Knuckle Seals

I have been using my recently imported 1979 BJ41. Had to free off seized rear brakes when I first got it. Now after a bit of use there is a slight oil leak from the steering knuckles. In the manual there are two types - ball joint axel shaft or constant velocity axle shaft. Do I need different...

    I have brought a BJ41!

Import tax depends on age of vehicle. Less than 30 years old: 10% Duty plus 20% VAT. Note duty is added before VAT calculated! (So if the vehicle you want is available in the UK and less than 30 years old it may not be worth importing one.) Over 30 years old: Zero duty, 5% VAT This tax...

    I have brought a BJ41!

Thanks for help: Moggy, Snowbound, JonFJ - I have now contacted Toyota asking if they can help with proof of year. Snowbound good to know you actually did this successfully. Waldamar - I saw those spilit rims, but they are pickup only. I will contact seller to see if he will sell two and ship...
