Hi all. Hoping that everyone loves a 'how rusty' thread as much as me. Looking for another project 80 - something to tidy-up as a daily driver, rather than bring back to mint condition. This is the underside of a low mileage 1HDFT. I am trying guess how much of a project this would be, and get a bit of sense check on 'how bad' this looks. Compared to my lovely 80 series, this is bad - but it is low miles and a manual, so it ticks some boxes. Price will ultimately be whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

The body is tidy, but there is rust in all the usual places: rear windows, doors, wheel arches, sills etc. Again, its a 30 year old project, so I can accept some rust for the right price. What concerns me is the chassis, and how rusty is too rusty (granted this might be hard to tell without breaking out a wire wheel). I suppose low engine miles might not necessarily say much about the engine condition if servicing has been irregular, so a few things to mull over (and appreciate there is a very long list of parts that need replacing, along with a swivel hub rebuild etc. - all fairly usual stuff).

Anyway, welcome comments on how this looks!

Thanks in advance.

Pics never tell the full story but it looks worse than it is to my eye . Some muppet drove it into the sea and never washed the salt off causing flash rust that been ignored for a long time . All the bracket mounts look solid enough so I don't think rust has penetrated , but damn thats some work to take on and inside the frame will look the same .

A quick google suggests you have no vehicles safety checks in Falklands Islands and the truck could likely be driven as is daily without getting much unwanted attention which perhaps makes it a viable project for the right money .

Few on the forum will understand how rare an opportunity the truck presents on a small island .
