…. In the fold.

Well, I sold my truck September last year knowing I would miss it. I lasted 9 months and this is now mine. Petrol, Auto, 114k, in pretty good order. It came fully equipped. Looking forward to ‘making it ours’ and getting back out there again.

Your cruiser cold Turkey didn't work then. Your not the first and I'm sure not the last. It's weird how you just can't do without one isn't it.

Went to the final Adventure Overland show the other week mainly to get rid of a load of surplus stuff in the Overland Jumble area.

It gave me the opportunity to try out the BunduTop RTT. I have to say that of all the tents we’ve had this is the most comfortable and easiest to set up what with the 4” thick mattress and electric open and close. Plus no problem leaving the duvet and pillows up there.

The previous owner made lightweight sides for the Alucab Awning. These were great, so light, and spacious. Kept the wind off a treat.

First proper work done on my truck yesterday. While out with the local 4x4 Response team on a training day, my winch packed up and I saw the wire rope had a nasty kink in it. I learned from the previous owner that the winch, Warn Tabor 12k, was 6 years old and used three times. Winches have to be used and maintained and I’m as guilty as the next man for not doing this.

The solenoids on mine were working as they were clicking but the motor wasn’t.

I found these instructions from Warn to test the winch ….

If you find yourself in a situation where your winch is clicking but it is not working, you may have a motor problem....or you may have a solenoid problem. The following procedure, from Warn, will help you determine the status of your winch motor.
1. Put the winch in freespool.

2. Disconnect the positive lead from the battery (leave the ground lead attached).

3. Label and disconnect the three cables that run from the control pack to the three posts on the motor.

4. Stamped next to the three posts on the motor will be "A", "F1" and "F2". Run a small jumper wire (5"-6" dead lead, 8 ga. will work just fine) from "A" to "F1" and put power from the battery (jumper cables work good) to "F2". The winch motor should run in one direction at this time.

5. Next, place the jumper wire from "A" to "F2" and put power from the battery to "F1". The winch motor should run in the opposite direction at this time.

If these steps are followed correctly and the motor runs in both directions, the motor is good

This proved my problem was the motor. I took it off, stripped it down and found it was fairly clean inside but there was oxidation on the brush mounts and one of them was stuck solid not making contact with the armature. Cleaned it all up, put it back together and it works a treat.

When replacing the wire rope with an Amourline rope I used a home made plasma rope lock to stop it coming off if too much rope is paid out. These guys sell a version High performance, precision engineered winches for 4x4 vehicles - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] but I made my own. I’m not going to win any prizes for sewing machine work, but it does the job nicely.
