Adverts

The thing is, as Supporters of the site we are not supposed to be seeing any....

@Crispin have you been able to find out any more as to why we are seeing adverts?
I made a bunch of changes so you should not. Please send me a screenshot of whey you're seeing.

Thanks for your work as always.
I did see a load of adverts earlier today. But nothing this evening so far.

Another one.....

These are really odd. I'll take a look today again.

I get none using windows 10 with all the "helpful" features turned off .

This seems to be a growing problem on many websites and platforms these days with adds getting past site security and shoving all manner of shite down your throat. I think we'll all agree that Youtewb can be a goldmine of useful info but add infested clickbait is becoming a real PITA.

I tend to agree with you.

At the risk of shooting myself in the foot - I loath adverts but clearly, I have them here as I have to pay the bills somehow. I think I have a good balance.

There are sites though that become unusable from adverts. Youtube is one of them.

I though don't see any adverts. A combination of PiHole + Firefox + UBlock Origin blocks pretty much everything. The web is a much cleaner place.
PiHole is a geeky thing to get set up bu honestly, switch to Firefox and install ublock origin and you life becomes so much lighter :)

As for the adverts you see, those are all hammer things down your throat you already have an interest in. There was a member a while ago complaining how I was showing him <enemy of Ukraine> brides and it was my fault. I pointed it out and we never heard a complaint again :)

Hardly ever go on the site now, not an enjoyable experience!
Totally understand every site needs some adds to pay for admin etc... but now I just get huge adverts between every single message. Not that I can even see them, because they're even obscured with the additional layers of pop-up ads constantly shooting up from the bottom of the screen and more ads dropping down from the top!
Almost impossible to navigate the site lately, you can only ever see about 20% of the site content.
It's a shame, its the only site I know which now seems to be multi-layered, wall to wall adverts.

I see what Bodie describes on android and apple but not on windows if thats any help ?

Since the latest works I have not had any adverts atl all. Seems to have worked what ever you did @Crispin ,
@Bodie do you pay a subscription to the site? It's not very expensive and then should get rid of all the adverts for you.

Wonder if it has something to do with the annoying "accept push notifications" pop up ? I have never and will never accept it but there seems no way to remove it .

@Towpack Same here!...... wall to wall advertising.

I got adverts for a couple of days on my phone but they disappeared with an adbkocker suggested by Crispin. Never any on the computer, both using Firefox..screenshot from the phone but the computer is equally ad free...

Damn error message made me think it hadn't posted
This is why we are seeing so many duplicate posts , best to ignore the error message after hitting post click whats new and like as not your failed post will show

@Shayne - Nope, adverts would not have anything to do with that. That allows the browser to tell your phone to make a "ping" sound when someone notifies you.

@fbnss - you should not see adverts at all. I'm well and truly stumped. When I am back in the UK I might give you a shout to try resolve this as I cannot for the life of me work it out as I don't see it.

@Steveindar - Do you mind showing me the error message. I just saw one but need more examples to raise a bug.

I'll get this solved. Not exactly the experience I want for the users. I'm on holiday at the moment and don't have adequate connection to take a look. I will when I am back .

For avoidance of doubt - Personally, I had adverts and the over-use of adverts. But I do need to pay the bills so needs must.
* not-logged-in-members will see adverts. Let's call it 1x adverts.
* logged in members with a post-history, i.e. not brand-new, will see adverts too. Let's call it 0.75x worth of adverts.
* Supporters, for less-than-two-beers-in-London will not see adverts.

Yes, my CPIX is beers-in-london :) :)

@Crispin merry Christmas, not had any ads on the phone since I installed an adblocker in Firefox. Never had them on the pc. Yet to experience any of this double posting stuff.
