Hi all,

The intermittent wiper has never worked on the Landcruiser (since we got it anyway), and now that the lo and high are starting to get a bit sluggish I thought I would replace the wiper motor. However Ayamama just quoted me £300 - £200 for the part and £100 delivery. So before I order it I want to check something else isn't the problem.

The wiper motor has a 5 pin plug, which I tested with a voltmeter at 'Off', 'INT', 'LO' & 'HIGH'

see table below

Screenshot 2025-04-04 at 13.04.43.png

Pin 1 at both low and high the voltage starts at 10.5v ish and slowly decreases.
Pin 2 - Is this the earth? I can't see an earth wire, although not sure if it's earthing directly through the chassis?
Pin 3 - Always has a voltage
Pin 4 - ???
Pin 5 - seems to be only activated at 'HIGH' wiper speed.

Other than that I'm not sure what to make of any of the numbers. Any thoughts anyone?

Also - Does the wiper system have a relay somewhere that could be blown?? and/ or a dedicated INT relay??

Thanks all

N

11.4 volts is an odd number TBH.....below battery voltage so must be stabilised or through an ECU ? and again 10.66 v and 10.2 v are either as a result of a resistor or ECU....
Possible the INT is a variable timed relay....
Is the table above from the tech manual or what you were measuring ? If it's what you were seeing then maybe you have high resistance in the loom or a connector as I would expect to see battery voltage in the loom at something like a wiper motor..... which could explain your sluggish wiper motor .

Thanks @Grimbo Yep it was what I was measuring.

So..... if there is high resistance in the loom any thoughts on where I start looking?? I'll dig out the user manual and look for any relay locations, but is there anything else that could be faulty and replaceable??

First place to look is any multi plug or connector in the loom.... where they are on a 105 I have no idea... but if damp has gotten in to a loom the multi plugs are normally where it starts...
The wiper switch on the column could be a good place to start with the multi meter..... it will or should have a battery voltage supply .... if you can probe the back of the connector you can then see the outputs at various settings .... they should all also I would think be at the same voltage as the input... from there I reckon they will travel to the motor ....
Could it be that like the blower motor for the heater fan slow speed on the wipers is through a resistor and fast is just giving the motor battery voltage ? No idea where the resistor would be though and /or if it might be in the wiper motor .
I doubt the wiring for the wipers is any different from a 100 series.... can you get diagrams from someone with a FSM ?

Awesome, thanks @Grimbo

That sound like a plan. I'll get on it in the next few days and report back. I managed to get a digital copy of the FSM for the 105 ages ago, so I'll have a look in there
