Could it be having trouble priming with ATF? Has your man checked that the trans cooler in the base of the radiator is not holed or blocked? Has the rest of the system that isn’t in the auto box been checked/flushed and cleared of water? Has the torque converter been pre filled with ATF?
If the...
There’s a thread somewhere on here about something similar. Portal axles was it?
Whoever thought giving the film a Pinky and Perky song soundtrack needs a serious talking to!
No worries on the intro Raj. It’s been good to meet you and although it has taken you some time to find a group, I have to say I think you’ve made a great choice.
Good to have you on board.
Best wishes
Rich
PS, I think I was late with my intro too (if I even did one :shifty:)
Hi Picky,
Welcome to this most friendly forum full of helpful knowledgeable folk who love cruisers.
You’ve come to the right place to fulfil your hopes.
Looking forward to hearing more and seeing some pics of your truck. Piccies are always welcome here (in fact almost obligatory!)
Best wishes...
That is one odd looking suspension setup!!
I was thinking it was sitting on a Landcruiser 80 chassis and running gear…until I saw the second pic!
I actually thought it looked pretty cool thinking it was made like that…
The irony factor mainly.
Good to see the photos Nick. I only heard about this earlier in the week and have the van apart getting the water ready for winter otherwise I’d have brought Lynn along.
I’ll try and do better next time.
Have a good one all.
Steve, I hope Patrick’s ok. Might have been abducted by...
Hi LX,
Thanks, that’s great.
You should be able to respond to the PM I sent, though I’m not 100% on this.
Did you want the whole package?
Payment will be by bank transfer when I’ve completed your doors and they are ready to ship. In truth, until that time I’ve no idea what the final...
Update time.
Doors are completed and painted and have been delivered.
All other parts are with me except hinges.
@LX450 you have a PM.
Looks like Tom Burnet has left so there’s two sets remaining.
1, Nick, fbnss GMR x2
2, Steve, steverjuk GMR x2
3, Rob, RobfromYork GMR x2
4, DandyLandy GR x2...
I’d try an independent body shop rather than insurance appointed. Avoid using intermediaries such as legal companies and deal direct.
There’s also parts suppliers on here. @karl webster and @chapel gate plus @AndycruiserguyLomas often has parts and there may be others. For new parts you could...
Hi Hamza and welcome.
That’s one lovely looking truck there. Looks to be in good condition too. As above, you’ve got a truck that needs nothing doing to it really. As it sits there it has the perfect look and it’s a rare beast in that condition. Many have bad rust issues around the arches by...
The only thing I can think of is air getting into the fuel line. Not much, just enough after being left. If it does it again, try pumping the primer on top of the filter.
Why do I suspect this? It’s happened after a period of non-use. I had a slight misfire appear not long after I fitted my...
Good luck with that Steve. As Frank says, the FSM is the best place and I do believe it covers both LHD and RHD but takes a bit of reading as all models are covered with notes to the models.
Glad you put it out. Did you find out what caused it?
Hi Alok and welcome.
Looks like you’ve already got your slippery slope all mapped out. Nice pics of a great cruiser in the best colour. Good to have you aboard.
Rich
Well done for spotting a simple problem and not starting looking for something major. Great troubleshooting
It’s all too easy to go off searching for something more major and miss the simple stuff.
Any un-deployed airbag should be fine Trev so second hand from a suitable donor is the way I’d go. The Cursed Smart Car hit a pothole on the A27 in weeing rain and set the passenger seat air bag off. The airbag module needed resetting on the computer to clear the light and reset the system. I...
Glad you’re not hurt Trev. Sorry it’s happened.
If Chas’s HMS Phoenix can survive what it did, then I’d say that’s just a flesh wound and she’ll be right as rain in no time.
I know what you mean about the driver and how you felt/feel.
On the off chance it needs more than a polish, there’s a chap in the midlands somewhere who’s mustard with these cruisers!
If only I could remember his name.
Hello and welcome to this friendly, helpful forum.
Shayne has a good point there as any lift over 50mm or so needs the front axle turned back to pointing forwards rather than slightly down which corrects the castor angle.
However, you say you’ve done the lift since experiencing this issue. One...
Does your truck have brake pad warning sensors fitted?
I don’t know if your model does (or indeed if any cruiser does as I only really know the 80s), but if it does there will be a little wire going to a brake pad on each side.
@clivehorridge has a 1HZ. They are no slouch. The cruiser, or Clive.
It is likely that a JDM import will be coked up from pootling around. Mine was. A month of heavy right foot and high doses of Wynns Eco Diesel will sort that.
With the members and knowledge on this forum, you shouldn’t need...
Welcome, as above, let’s have some pics. There’s some good members on here with 40s though I’m not sure if they might all be diesel. Someone will no doubt help out. It can’t be that difficult, they don’t have computers on them!!
Bosch batteries I believe own Varta and the Varta and Bosch offerings are identical in appearance if not everything else. I have a pair of Bosch ones on mine atm. Got them from local motor factors a couple of years or more ago. Any struggle you may be experiencing may be down to import...
Thanks Felix, it is progress but I’m kicking myself for not looking into ordering the hinges sooner. Thing is, they’ve quoted the BEST case scenario. It could well take longer. I’m going to need to think what I’m going to do with 20 doors and 20 frames as I really haven’t got the room to store...
Update time, again.
The good bits
Just spoken to the fabricators and the door parts have been punched out and are awaiting rolling into their curved shape and all the bits welding up.
Powder coaters have been notified of 40 parts coming their way.
Rubber seals ordered and delivered.
Hinges...
For what reason do you wish for the second battery Mick?
If as a parallel starter battery for extra ‘ooomph’ on startup, does it need it? Or for a leisure battery setup? Two batteries in parallel is never the perfect scenario it is expected to or should be, due to the cells being in a bank and...
My trouble is having a window (body aperture if you like) to work with. I happen to have an 80, so I have a platform to work on. I tried getting a 1/4 of a hundee but they are a totally different ball game. Nobody has asked for 90 series gullwings before that I recall, so I can only assume the...
Also pop the cover strips of at the door cill and lift the carpet there. From what you describe, the water is in the cills so this area under the carpet should be dry but there’s quite a channel for water to get in if your screen has leaked or you’re unfortunate enough to have had a leak in your...
Well the rubbers have come in. :)
Seals are on order. :)
Hinges……hmmm, looking like 3 months lead time. Looking into other avenues bear with me! They have to come over from the US and experience has taught me that supply from across the pond is becoming difficult.
Doors SHOULD be being...
Hi Monty and welcome.
Can you describe the fault you were experiencing so we can look out for it if it happens to others? For instance, was the odometer working while the needle stopped intermittently (which incidentally has a thread and fix on here) or the needle showed the wrong speed?
Best...
Every garage from Bognor to Angmering had a queue a hundred yards long or more on the road at 12:00 today. By 5:00 pm one was sold out, the others…rammed with queues. Good job I’ve got a few vehicles to choose from. Even the Cursed Smart car could be back on the road if diesel does run dry...
Your early posts indicated a lot of oil was added. It’s rare that much oil leaks out and adding oil without knowing the exact quantity in all components in the system can hydraulically lock the compressor, often punching holes in the valve plates. An overcharged system can also do this (if the...
As Frank said. That’s what my money would be on. That’s a shaft ‘windmilling’ in an oversized hole.
It probably decelerates the truck too and shakes through the steering.
Hi Ellen and welcome to the forum. You’ve found the right place for friendly helpful members with bags of experience.
Without viewing your video (no linkee) it could be a few things.
Firstly I have to ask why the transmission was replaced?
Initial guesses are that one of the driveshafts was...
In many refrigeration systems there are pressure release valves which exhaust to the atmosphere to prevent too much pressure being generated. These are located on the high pressure side of the system and can be a valve or a soldered up plug that melts to release the refrigerant.
The compressor...
By the sound of it underneath it’s a rare truck worth keeping. If you can get it back, it’s worth sorting the AC issue yourself with the help of a one man band fridge engineer. Ask a few of the local takeaways/pubs/restaurants/cafes who they use. You’ll start to build a picture of who to call...
If it’s leaking, it’s leaking. It doesn’t need ‘Toyota’ O rings, just ones suitable for AC and cleaned up joints. If it’s leaking round the condenser joints then whoever changed the condenser didn’t do that job right.
Question…what was the car like underneath? Was it rust free, rusty or under...
Sorry Steve, I only have the mark 2s. If you really need it, with a bit of added faff and an intelligent volt sensing relay I believe you can bridge it to solar charge charge the starter battery. Or simply fit a solenoid to link the batteries for that rare occasion where the cranking battery is...
Think I’m a bit late to the party here but it’s worth bearing in mind the Intervolt DCDC chargers. The gen 2 ones can cope with standard wet, AGM, Gel and lithium (with a suitable BMS) with solar MPPT input and a display in the cab.
All at 25A all day long in Australia heat under the bonnet and...
