How can you overfill a diff by several litres? Wouldn't the excess oil just pour out of the fill hole before you can plug it back? It's not like an engine, where in theory you can fill it right to the top/filler cap level.

Saw that the other day when browsing - quite a few Collies out there, almost all of their MoT histories read the same, sadly. If I could find a decent Collie, I wouldn't mind "upgrading" like-for-like as mine has certainly seen better days and is probably now on the threshold of being beyond...

In fairness, I would imagine that looking at an engine produced in the last 5 or so years and comparing it with say something from 20 years ago, the number of sensors and ECU controlled components will have probably increased by a significant factor, plus aren't many of the systems now...

Thanks for the clarification - the rear diff fill/drain plugs are the same on the transfer case too from memory, so you'll have a few spares.

I can't remember exactly but the (magnetic) drain plug is deeper than the fill plug by a few mm IIRC? Just make sure it doesn't foul any internals as I don't believe there is a lot of clearance! I'm sure it will be fine - just a thought though.

I had my Collie's cat stolen back in 2019 - just as well it was in for a new exhaust! So didn't work out too expensive. CCTV showed the barstewards in and out in less than a minute. "Gone in 60 seconds" is quite apt.

Does seem a grey area, as I know several cars that have had CAT removed but still pass MoT. However I think it's only going to get stricter and stricter, so checks may become more rigorous than they are now. I'd suggest fitting a (cheap'ish) replacement and a CAT guard as they call them...

I'm assuming your 1999 Collie's (as per you sig) autobox is standard. If so, then it should be a A343F gearbox, which is 3 speed with overdrive. So you might loosely call it a "4 speed". The 5 speed box wasn't introduced until the 120 was a year* or so into production, so around 2004 or so. *...

That's very true Shayne and that same mindset has made me stick with the 90 despite being on the verge of chopping it in several times. It's having the brake pipes repaired on Monday, so should be back on the road again next week! :thumbup:

I'm used to checking the height as my 90 is probably 60-70mm taller than standard due to the SL and oversize tyres. Can't imagine a 120 is that much taller, if at all.

Was browsing Landcruisers on eBay, as you do, and came across this 2004 LC4 120 series, which looked fairly decent inside and out. Checked the MoT history and it seems like the usual corrosion issues underneath - I suppose it is 18 years old now. What do you think - worth a closer look...

Just cap them off in the engine bay, near the bulkhead and job done. Quite a few members, myself included have done this without issue. You can get some fuel hose and replace the existing pipes with that but if you never use the rear heater not much point anyway.
