    Chris's Funeral

At the other end of the country this week but will raise a glass in Chris' memory tonight. I'm sure the Landcruiser drive past will send him off in style. Rest in peace Chris.

Challenge, Cruiser on the road for under a grand.

Exact same thing happened in mine a few years back; was on the motorway at a fair pace - all of a sudden sounds like a group of Harley riders had surrounded me! Stopped to check and found the lambda sensor completely out and dangling by the wire.

Super cool! - especially as you designed and built them all yourself. Would love to see an "Ultimate Collectors'" version, where you'd be able to add much more detail. :icon-cool:

    Chance 3 Prado lineup!

Great pic! Perhaps it's the angle but the 150 seems really bloated compared to the 90 and 120, which look (and we know are) similar in size.

    Tips for a new owner

Yep, short journeys and town driving your looking at 16-19mpg at best. Get it on s motorway run and stay under 70mph and you will get 22-23mpg. My 90 (3.4 5VZ-FE) has been consistent for nearly 20 years of ownership. Change the oil, spark plugs, clean the MAF and check the HT leads - if they...

    Crypto Overlanding

I certainly don't claim to understand Crypto but think that @karl2000 has explained the salient points very well above - Thanks! The problem with Crypto is that the general public simply don't understand how it works (or can be bothered to find out TBH). Not sure it will ever become...

'For Your Viewing Pleasure' -- Suggestions for Hidden YouTube Gems?

Must admit that that thought also occurred to me; given the level of skill and knowledge required to do what she did, you would have become a very experienced user of most hand tools and such like. She simply doesn't handle the tools like a old pro would, they seem unfamiliar in her hands....but...

Shame: RH & IR Cradock Ltd

How can you overfill a diff by several litres? Wouldn't the excess oil just pour out of the fill hole before you can plug it back? It's not like an engine, where in theory you can fill it right to the top/filler cap level.

    Would you surrender?

I'm sorry but saying that "Ukraine didn't exist till 1991" is just simply ignoring the state of the world before the existence of the USSR; Kyiv was a thriving city, a 1000 years before Moscow. You've made the point that Russia haven't attacked a NATO country, a point that I also made...

    Would you surrender?

Just a few points: I suppose the Ukrainian people don't get to have a say in any of this? Re: Cuba - yes but I don't recall the USA invading Cuba and trying to take it over? Nor did they attack Cuba with middle strikes on its cities. "They're only taking back what used to belong to them" - We...

    Would you surrender?

There is no doubt that the Ukrainians have had massive support from the West, however I don't think that there are significant numbers of non-Ukrainian fighters on the ground - to say that would be to vastly underestimate and dishonour what the Ukrainian forces have achieved - they've been very...

The minefield which is buying a Colorado.

Saw that the other day when browsing - quite a few Collies out there, almost all of their MoT histories read the same, sadly. If I could find a decent Collie, I wouldn't mind "upgrading" like-for-like as mine has certainly seen better days and is probably now on the threshold of being beyond...

To Dealer or not to Dealer

In fairness, I would imagine that looking at an engine produced in the last 5 or so years and comparing it with say something from 20 years ago, the number of sensors and ECU controlled components will have probably increased by a significant factor, plus aren't many of the systems now...

That doesn't seem right. As you say, I would expect the driveshafts to be level at worst and perhaps ideally a very shallow angle down towards the wheel?

    Really?

Hate to say it but I can understand why there is such a enthusiast following for the Defender - whether you bought a Land Rover in the 1950s or one of the last "Defender" models, you're the owner of an instantly recognisable and iconic vehicle, part of a massive club and enthusiast base...

    Rusty leaking rear Diff

Thanks for the clarification - the rear diff fill/drain plugs are the same on the transfer case too from memory, so you'll have a few spares.

    Rusty leaking rear Diff

I can't remember exactly but the (magnetic) drain plug is deeper than the fill plug by a few mm IIRC? Just make sure it doesn't foul any internals as I don't believe there is a lot of clearance! I'm sure it will be fine - just a thought though.

    Honda cat delete

I had my Collie's cat stolen back in 2019 - just as well it was in for a new exhaust! So didn't work out too expensive. CCTV showed the barstewards in and out in less than a minute. "Gone in 60 seconds" is quite apt.
  30. chadr

    Honda cat delete

Does seem a grey area, as I know several cars that have had CAT removed but still pass MoT. However I think it's only going to get stricter and stricter, so checks may become more rigorous than they are now. I'd suggest fitting a (cheap'ish) replacement and a CAT guard as they call them...

It almost seems like they stubbled across a load of ARB kit and fitted what would make the most visual impact, without necessarily thinking about functionality.

    Really?

There's a White 100 4.7 V8 - which seems to have been freshly imported, loads of ARB kit fitted - it has the cleanest underside of any used car I have ever seen. Spotless and not even a hint of rust anywhere......:sunglasses: Raptor's cool, though I wouldn't buy it - no harm, no foul. :icon-wink:

    kdj 95 automatic transmission..

I thought all variations of the 90 series variations sold in the UK (3.4 Petrol, 3.0TD and 3.0d4d) had the same A343* 3 speed + overdrive autobox? I don't think the 90 series was available with a 5 speed auto. First 5 speeders were in 120 series and post-facelift 100 series AFAIK. * I...

    Auto box 5th gear selection

I'm assuming your 1999 Collie's (as per you sig) autobox is standard. If so, then it should be a A343F gearbox, which is 3 speed with overdrive. So you might loosely call it a "4 speed". The 5 speed box wasn't introduced until the 120 was a year* or so into production, so around 2004 or so. *...

I haven't needed to fill my Collie's LPG tank since Xmas (yes really!), mainly because it was left stranded on my drive for over 2 months following a ruptured brake line till quite recently. To Dealer or not to Dealer

Prior to getting the Collie, I had a few BMWs and used BMW dealerships, even though in the back of my mind I had a suspicion that it was a rip off. So when I initially got the Collie, and as it was around 5 years old and had a full MDSH, thought I would try and maintain that (if I knew I was...

I don't know of an app - though I'm sure there will be some. My immediate thought was to create a "my 100" calendar in whatever app you use (Outlook, Google etc.) one that you can overlay over your own personal calendar, if necessary, or it can standalone. You can always export all the...

    2004 Toyota Landcruiser 120 series

I'm used to checking the height as my 90 is probably 60-70mm taller than standard due to the SL and oversize tyres. Can't imagine a 120 is that much taller, if at all.

    2004 Toyota Landcruiser 120 series

I must admit that an "upgrade" to a 120 is looking more and more appealing. Previously I had my sights set on a 100 but the reality is that it is just too big to be practical, especially in an urban area like where I live*. and the impracticality would start grating on me soon enough. Always...

    2004 Toyota Landcruiser 120 series

Was browsing Landcruisers on eBay, as you do, and came across this 2004 LC4 120 series, which looked fairly decent inside and out. Checked the MoT history and it seems like the usual corrosion issues underneath - I suppose it is 18 years old now. What do you think - worth a closer look...

Rear heater pipes leaking. Replacement ideas.

Just cap them off in the engine bay, near the bulkhead and job done. Quite a few members, myself included have done this without issue. You can get some fuel hose and replace the existing pipes with that but if you never use the rear heater not much point anyway.
