    EV's -Tesla

Hi Raj - based on recent analysis you are correct, there is a higher risk of fire from an ICE than a modern BEV, BUT... when a BEV does go up in flames (a) it takes a hell of a lot longer to get it under control and (b) if it spreads to other nearby BEVs (e.g. if you have a lot of them lined up...

    looking for a good mechanic

Bizarre. Never had an issue finding someone to work on any of our older stuff, including the 80 Series (though to be fair I do a lot myself anyway). Even the local diesel specialist (mostly works on modern commercial stuff) said he'd be happy to do anything on the 80 I don't fancy doing myself...

Nice colour, shame about the price......

LOL! Looks like a pretty honest car, but that's definitely ambitious. MOT history is interesting though - its done sod all in the last decade - under 5,000 miles if the records are correct, and it literally did one mile between 2010 and 2011 tests - so the owner either trailered it in, lives...

Help sourcing specialist bolts for solar panel attachment to roof tracks

Not sure if it helps, but Campervan Culture do stock this sort of thing: Four Load Rings & Single Anchor Point Fitting Kit - Campervan Culture - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club] ... so maybe able to help with finding/sourcing suitable fixings?

    EV's -Tesla

This is worth a read, if you want to understand an insurers perspective (which is relevant from a risk management perspective). https://static.rsagroup.com/rsa/commercial-insurance-products/motor-fleet/electric-vehicle-charging-and-enclosed-car-parks-v1.pdf To give an example, if you don't...

    Pure speculation.

I had a 2 door RR Classic with a SD1 police V8 in it, that went well! Also incredible off road, as long as it didn't overheat. Beat that thing to death laning and trialling it - it was known as "Big Nasty" in our local 4x4 club. Given the price of 2 door RR classics now I do wish I'd kept it...

Where do you get one? Imports/UK

JDM is a good option if you can afford it and are happy with the associated hassles, but as Grimbo says, there are a few UK ones around and some enthusiasts, especially on here :-)

1KZT engine conversion on 70 series

Thanks for sharing this - awesome build, great attention to detail.

    G Turbo group buy

Cheers. Think we'll need to get ours done at some point (220,000 miles now give-or-take) and it definitely doesn't pick up like it used to. I plan to get it in to a local diesel specialist and have it health checked in the first instance....

Hi Hemi - is that a full replacement or did they recon your own?

Know anyone locally that can just loan you a set of wheels whilst you do the test? (Not that we've ever done that )

Annoying sound while driving, back right

When I get an annoying sound from the back, its normally the kids. Seriously, as above, check the brakes and also the backing plate (if its still there) - have had rusty backing plates on a couple of vehicles now causing annoying occasional grinding noises.

Lug nuts 80 series - sorry

Hey - found this - presume its what you're referring to. The early ones do look broadly similar, but personally I wouldn't risk it. (Mine's on the later style in any case!).

    Recovery rope or strap

I just buy marine rope (12t breaking strain), most chandlers will loop and splice it for you. You can select whatever length you need. Fraction of the price of branded recovery gear and just as robust, unless you need kinetic (which is another can-o-worms).

    looking for a good mechanic

TBH any garage that says they can't work on these vehicles should be avoided anyway. Likely they have "part fitters" rather than mechanics. Any decent workshop can work on an 80 series.

No New Land Cruisers in the UK

Aye, wait times on Hiluxes are similarly ridiculous... guys on the HPOC are reporting anything up to 12 months, and one guy 550 days+, which is frankly crazy.

Why do you need a roof section? In case it rains? (Sorry, couldn't resist).

No New Land Cruisers in the UK

Wow. Just checked Autotrader and there are only 3 listed (all with the same 'Yota dealer I think). What do you think - supply issue, or is Toyota quietly withdrawing the Cruiser from the UK?

GRJ78 Troopy to Overland ready home

Not sure about the transmission tunnel one in practical use (seems a lot of "stuff" around the gearstick), but the back door ones look great. Was the shipping cost reasonable?

Bit rough and ready, but I plan to go through it...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

AdrianR - yeah - this one already has a +2" lift and 235/75/15 aggressive tyres (kind of mini-SImex pattern) and has been used and abused, but its basically solid and little rust. Its ideal for the green lanes around here, as they're really too narrow for the 80 Series and/or Hilux. I've had an...

Diesel drivers overcharged by 16p a litre

Prices changed locally here over the last few days - diesel under £1.50 a litre for the first time in a couple of years are now cheaper than unleaded and super unleaded.

GRJ78 Troopy to Overland ready home

Very tidy - like the winch hook, neat fitment. (What breed is Zero BTW? Looks a little like our Patterdale...).

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Cool - and TBH as £20 each I can't blame you! I was actually thinking about the value of running two sets, assuming you had to buy both new.

Who is doing what maintenance today?

Genuine question, Andy - do you think swapping them about actually makes much difference in real terms? I'm not sure how useful ice contact tyres are (never had them) but my experience in proper snow suggests its snow chains or nothing. I tend to just run ATs or MTs all year round, never really...

Lanoguard - views from those that have used it?

Hi all So, a couple of years back I paid a local motor body place to clean and treat the chassis on my Hilux. I gave it a good wash a couple of days ago and overall the work done has held up well and the chassis still looks pretty-much rust free. There are a few places where paint has been...

    Adventure overland 2023

HMG - true, but in this case it was comment on a video. Tom getting grumpy that the site was being carved up. That said, the LC80 wasn't acting badly particularly, TBH, so not sure why he was picked out... looks like lots of people just churning up the mud, especially camper vans and such.

    Adventure overland 2023

Come on then - own up - who was in the white 80 series with the roof tent?! Quote from the AO FB page: "The guy in the white Landcruiser is a classic example. Drive in a straight line parallel to the fence and you build up speed and take a wide sweeping turn to the right. Drive over the white...

    SOLD - 1998 LC HDJ100 VX

    Cruise Moab Bound

    Expedition Overland Nordic Series

Still plenty of exploring to do in Europe if you want to get off the blacktop, but agree that you don't need 35" tyres etc to do it. That said, the interior of Iceland can be pretty challenging... In all honesty though, if it wasn't for the kids we'd seriously consider moving to Aus.

    Adventure overland 2023

Not hugely surprised by the 2 hour thing GOK - as you say, a big part of the event is camping with your mates - without that element I'm not sure how much "show" there is to see really. What were they charging for day visitors this time BTW? As Jacob says, hopefully a wake up call for the...

    Adventure overland 2023

When it started it seemed to be genuinely aimed at people travelling/overlanding - so many like-minded people with a focus on discussions about vehicles, routes, etc. The show was smaller, once a year, and people that had a genuine interest made an effort to attend. Lots of good memories of...

Rebuild of 2004 1HD FTE 78 Series Troopy for overlanding

    This made good money

Used to have a Charger - it was massive - only just fit in a 6m garage. Ref the OP - agreed on the underseal point - looks like someones taken a couple of cans of rattlecan wax oil to it without any prep. That overspray on the exhaust etc is pretty horrible and obviously not a professional job.
