    French Speaking Puzzle Solver Please.

Only reference I can see to Mle refers to model i.e. Mle - Modèle or "Model" followed by the design year. Used in designations for shells, cartridges, guns and mountings. Any help?

What snow chains are you all using

Good quality chains will not snap and are unlikely to damage anything if they're fitted properly and you only use them when needed (i.e. when you're actually on snow - drive more than a few hundred yards on open tarmac and you may well snap or damage them). But they aren't cheap. Look at Pewag...

    Mobicool FR35 for sale

Good fridge - I've had the Waeco one in my camper for 7/8 years now and it works really well with low draw. Good luck Gary.

Terraclean. Has anyone tried it in their diesel?

TBH I'm not sure I'd trust any of these "flush" type services. If the engine is healthy it seems unnecessary, and if the engine is knackered then I can't see how flushing stuff through it would make any material difference, and as Steve says, you risk displacing something you don't want to!

    Snorkel Help

TBH most snorkels are purely for show anyway - very few people run their trucks in 3 feet plus of water. Unless you're planning on competition work I'd just refit it and forget about it.

    FZJ80 Body moldings saught

HI and welcome. When we had the bodywork restored on our 80 we just deleted those moldings completely and had the holes welded over - looks much cleaner than stock. Just a thought...

    Diesel heater in a box

How hot does the actual unit get when its running?? I'm maybe being paranoid but I'm not sure about having a plastic fuel tank sat next to the heater... or does it stay pretty cool in there? Otherwise that looks tidy

80 series chassis rust guidance needed

I'd echo what's been said already - its rougher than our one, but not horrible - almost certainly salvageable, but definitely needs work. If you don't fancy doing it yourself I reckon you'll be looking at a grand or so to get this cleaned up and see what's there. Else its a couple of weekends...

    Sad day, Don't hate me

I go back to my previous comment - I know pick ups don't work for some people, but I love my Hilux - its modern enough, but still essentially a truck. Its a 2015, I've owned it 3 1/2 years and its been great. Far more reliable than the 80 series TBH. As others have said, I'm not sure I would...

    Rethinking a 2014 VDJ79

Nice. Always very jealous of the kit you Aussie guys seem to get access to - seems the after-market suppliers in Oz are much more on-the-ball than those in Europe when it comes to canopies, tray backs, etc.

    265/65/17 winter tyres ?

Mileage - I think we're around 25,000 miles on the Sprinter 4x4 and they're all still pretty good - I reckon maybe good for 35,000 at a. guess? They've taken more of a battering on the Hilux, probably because I drive it a lot harder - probably good for 20-25,000 miles (I've been cycling them...

    265/65/17 winter tyres ?

Ive Yoko GO15s on both my Sprinter and Hilux - agree that they are well behaved and wear well, but I do have a concern that the carcass is nowhere near as strong as BFG or similar. For mostly road and mild off road they're great, but I would be wary if you plan much serious off roading. I...

GRJ78 Troopy to Overland ready home

Nice. BTW looping buggy cords around the chains helps to keep everything taught and reduces the risk of a thrown chain - super cheap insurance policy. Discovered that one doing the French comp stuff in the Alps.

    265/65/17 winter tyres ?

What I would say is, if you are going anywhere with serious snow, bring chains. Winter spec tyres will only get you so far - a good set of chains (Pewag cross chains or similar, not the crap Halfords ones) will work wonders and give amazing traction.

80 series - starting issues - looking for suggestions

Update: no further issues, even when left parked up for a week or more, including during the recent ice and snow, so I think we're all good - just a dodgy (and aged) battery! All the best guys (and Merry Christmas!).

Christ on a bike, what a hassle. Congratulations on the positive result and sticking with it - I think many of us would have just given up TBH. The DVLA really are a law to themselves - though I read on another forum that they've finally been picked up on the whole van-to-camper fiasco...

    Cybox 2.5 stainless exhaust system

Didn't buy this one, but did buy another copy pattern exhaust for our 80 off e-bay a few years ago. It fit fine, but the rear mount was incorrect - it routed on the opposite side of the rear chassis leg, compared to the previous one. We cut off and realigned the rear mount and it fitted...

'For Your Viewing Pleasure' -- Suggestions for Hidden YouTube Gems?

Agreed Shayne - and "off road battle" is a bit misleading too - most 80s/90s era 4x4s would have managed quite happily - hell, be interesting to see a Panda 4x4 have a go...

    Insurance

Be worth you asking AF to re-quote to include other vehicle cover - they should have multiple underwriting companies available - see what they come back with. Else try NFU or similar.
  33. D

    Insurance

That's my point TP - its down to the individual policy terms. If Shayne's terms changed at any time, then AF should have made this clear at the time of renewal. Private car insurance policies still usually have this, but specialist and commercial policies often don't. @Shayne - remember AF are...
  34. D

    Insurance

Depends entirely on the policy Shayne. Most policies used to allow you to drive any vehicle not belonging to you on third party cover only, but its not always the case, especially on specialist policies.

Hi and welcome. Theres a pretty significant cross over between the Hilux and Cruiser fraternities, and lots of helpful advice available.
  42. D

    Really?

Agree on the advisory point, Andy - I worry about owners that seem to just fire their vehicles into the MOT and fix only what's needed to get a pass... what does that say about their ongoing maintenance?
