    Boris.

As we now live in a society where being successful puts you on a pedestal where it is OK to be mocked and criticised for that success, is it any wonder that those people who could benefit the country keep a low profile. There are exceptions to this but in insufficient numbers to prevent a race...

200 Series - blows a cloud of black smoke on heavy acceleration

Welcome to the forum. I'm assuming you don't like the black smoke. https://www.project200.com.au/maf-map-filter/ The chap above suggests that excessive exhaust smoke might be the result of clogged sensors.

This chap has a good website and a number of Youtube tutorials that are easy to follow. https://www.project200.com.au/ IH8MUD is a good forum for all things 200 and has a number of maintenance procedures.

    Really?

When you do Hardknott and possibly Wrynose, I'd suggest taking it out of D, put it into S and then you can use engine braking rather than relying entirely on the brakes to keep the speed down. My mother got me to drive their Leyland Sherpa motorhome over Hardknott and Wrynose when I was...

That's good news. Hopefully they'll do something similar for the 80. I may be able to pick up some new front wings for mine in around 2060.

Monday, not the best day ever.

I'd have thought with a ladder chassis, the bodywork is just a nice to have albeit there are a few points where there are safety related bits anchored to the shell. Good that you are OK though.

    Time 24H format

I tried to change mine and faffed around for a bit without success. I came to the conclusion it in't an option although I'd have thought with the type of vehicle it is, a 24H option would be a good idea.

    This diesel shortage then

I suspect that the modern scroat won't bother trying to undo pipework or syphoning - they'll just knock a hole in the tank. I'm always horrified at what they do when they nick outboards - they'll chainsaw the transom around the bracket and through the control lines and fuel line. It easily...

    This diesel shortage then

LOL - I've just been doing this on my diesel 80 although it wasn't entirely successful. I tried sticking a jiggle syphon down the fuel filler but it arrives at a point and won't go any further. I took the fuel pipe from the outlet of the fuel filter and replaced it with a length of hosepipe...

I filtered past the cars on the road that were either waiting to get into the petrol station or were being blocked by the people waiting to get into the petrol station. With a slight bit of guilt, I filled the bike, paid and left. I'm not sure I'd have been able to bring myself to fill up a...

    Cold start - Fast Idle

I started mine this morning with 8 degrees showing on the temperature. It starts and idles at about 700rpm. There's no initial fast idle. Could it be the DPF that is trying to regenerate?

    80 series on TFL

The majority of high speed ferries in Australia are wrapped and in terms of colour fastness and adhesion it lasts very well. If the vinyl wrap was seen as a consumable layer, I think it would work. It's easy to patch repair.

    This diesel shortage then

I don't think there is any change in the amount of fuel available, if this is what defines a shortage, but supply isn't matching demand. The demand increased four or five fold overnight as the media reported fuel shortages. Fuel is being delivered to garages but not in the quantities that...

Can we squeeze 1990 to 1995 into your slot of best Land Cruiser years please? Other than preferring not to have a United Nations white one, I wasn't too fussed on colour. I looked at a few but they had obviously had a hard life. Rust seemed quite prevalent and I'd already experienced that...

I'll fess up and say that I'm now the owner of a 200 in addition to Chris' old 80. I don't think more power would be in keeping with the persona of the car. I enjoy wafting about in something the same size of my living room and, to be fair, with similar handling characteristics. More power...

I'm glad you had a good time Chris - the NC500 is on my list of things to do but really once you are north of Glasgow, it's a struggle to find a poor biking road. We were in the Outer Hebrides over the summer (with our RIB rather than a bike) and after fearing it was going to be over run, it...

200 series - auto lock when exiting vehicle

Welcome to the forum. I don't know what age your 200 is but the smart entry system locks the doors when you press the little rubber button on the main part of the door handle. Unlocking the doors is activated by just gripping the door handle. I don't believe there is a function to have it...

Is Land Cruiser 200 still worth keeping and repairing

I think I'd still get some independent advice as to what your options are. At the moment you are having to trust the untrustworthy dealer that he will repair the vehicle properly. The further you go down that road, the more difficult it will be to change direction if it all starts going wrong...

    Won't start .

Is there is a bit of a myth associated with this? The position of your fuel pick up doesn't change and the location of the interface between the fuel and the water doesn't change in the same way as the level of the fuel changes. I wonder if the slime sits on top of the diesel rather than in...

Is Land Cruiser 200 still worth keeping and repairing

I'm not sure Land Rover products have the best of reputations when it comes to reliability. IH8MUD is probably the best source of info for the 200 series. There is also a 200 series Facebook group that has some interesting stuff. The developing hemisphere seem to quite like the 200 and the...

Is Land Cruiser 200 still worth keeping and repairing

That's a real shame and I hope you can get a refund. I went to look at a silver 64 reg 200 that is £5 short of £50k and has only done 28,000 miles. The bodywork was perfect, the inside was OK although it hadn't had the dog hair or some type of animal feed removed from it. Underneath...

    Confession.

I feel your pain. I went through the same issue and I think it turned out that, as Chris has eruditely hinted at, I'd depressed the brake pedal all the way and that had moved the piston in the master brake cylinder on to a dirty / rough bit which had destroyed the seal. I changed the master...

I had my campervan (LWB MB Sprinter) done at Before n After. I'd give it a bit of a lukewarm review. Whilst the visible underside was done very well I had to go ferreting around underneath and point out a few places that were tucked out of the way that hadn't been done. There were also a...

I guess it must be an import. They don't have the dimmer relay. As a result I'd say it was the switch particularly as you can get it to work by flicking it every now and again. I've worked out you are from Tanzania so the lack of dimmer relay may be standard there. To my keep it simple...

Land Cruiser 80 Series Main Beam Head Lights Stopped Working

I read this as it is the red one that is broken so for anyone else that suffers the same issue as above, it is the black Dimmer relay that is most likely broken and not the red one. It was only whilst looking at the terminal numbers on the wiring diagram (after replacing the red relay which is...
