Not updated this thread for a while! I have been busy with work and trying to change our lifestyles to work with a young child... I got all the brakes plumbed up with the braided hoses but I kept finding I had an issue with long pedal travel, in the end I needed to use the truck again so had...

    Waterproofing a Petrol 1FZ

The fan throws water into the distributor, there are 3 holes in it, I think for breather holes. You can see 2 of them with the distributor fitted, they are on the back facing the cylinder head, the other is underneath. I have blocked 2 of mine up and run a 6mm pipe from the 3rd right to the...

Car tax evasion rates have tripled since the paper disc was withdrawn

Rubbish, they are just catching more people now it is electronic instead of someone having to look in the windscreen to check the tax disc.

80 Series starts but repeatedly cuts out - 4.5 petrol.

Open the aibox check there is nothing nesting in there or blocking it, try starting it with easy start or similar, see if it will run longer. Take out one of the spark plugs and see if is making a spark whilst cranking when it refuses to start. Check the exhaust, are any fumes being pushed out...

    Fjz-105 high idle!

Do you have a service manual for the 1FZ? I only have one for an 80, but hopefully these pages may help. There is no special procedure for fitting a new IAC, the ecu just moves it by trial and error to find the right speed. If it cannot find the right speed it will put a fault in the ecu.

    Fjz-105 high idle!

When you cleaned the throttle body, did you take the TPS off? It is not meant to be removed, there is a setup procedure for a new one but I have not had any success with it. Are you absolutely sure it isn't an intake airleak? It does sound like the symptoms for one.

So in order to tune the valve, I have gathered some data and drawn some graphs to help me understand it. Data 1, from service manual, shows brake setting at 1330kg axle load. Data 2, shows brake pressure at unladen 995kg, although confusingly written does not tell you this. Data 3...

Yeah, or you could put the lap part of the belt over the isofix base, between the grey and black bits. Whichever works best with your ISOFIX base. For a universal system, the ISOFIX seems to be a lot different between seat and car manufacturers. In my Corolla which has ISOFIX from the...

    Yet another 80 build thread

I'm not doubting your welding Steve, its more to hold the seat itself down. At the moment it is held by the latch under the seatbelt recepticle. If you had the seatbelt plugged in and ratcheted tight it would also be held down to the body, on the door side of the seat by the lap part of the...

Looks good Steve. Can you get the seatbelt across the seat base as well, belt and braces? If you pull the seatbelt out to its maximum, when it retracts it turns into a ratchet, automatically locking.

Depending on a heavy or light load over the rear axle, you can use more, or less rear brakes. The other adjustment is how hard you are pressing the brake pedal! But because the Land Cruiser 80 has such big front brakes it is easily possible to lock the front wheels (and activate the abs). The...
