we're the equivalent to about half that here in the states... Really and truly though, gas prices should be substantially lower at current crude prices.

    First problem.....auto box

Is this just a problem on take off? Did the fluid change change the trans behavior at all? Does the car drive perfectly fine once moving? There is a earth wire for the trans near the oil filter housing. At least this is the case on the 1KZ model. Make sure this wire looks good. I'd have a look...

    1kz-te Injectors

Noted, but in Trevors case was the car giving any symptoms of a failed injector? I would suspect smoke out back and poor performance? Having messed around with the injectors on these there's not much too them. Of course over time, the nozzle and spring can wear.

    1kz-te Injectors

Yeah, unless you have reason to change them I wouldn't touch them. Plenty of motors out there on stock injectors well over 150k miles.

    1kz-te Injectors

Are you located in the US? If so, do tell us more. You can get them rebuilt at any qualified diesel shop, or just throw in some recond ones. Any reason why you're replacing them? My original ones lasted about 250k miles before I threw in some recon ones. And I did so because I had a recond...

This engine does not have a Carb. It does have a idle air control valve which can cause those symptoms? Is the check engine light on?

    Spill control valve!!!

I've got a couple good 1KZ electronic pumps laying around if you're interested. They have the Europe Spec spill control valves which I believe will work on the AUS model with the correct plug.

Also check your airbox lid is tight with the clips. They can resonate through to the inside of the truck if they're loose.

Auto transmission oil change. High mileage. Never changed before

Just do a drain and refill and repeat after 30,000 miles or so. If the fluid comes out very bad, then repeat at a quicker interval instead. These boxes alongside fluids are pretty long lasting and robust, especially if they haven't seen extreme temps.

    Brakes (again)

Check back the fitting on the calipers. Sometimes you won't see visible leaks but they'll be able to suck air in. And I believe you're supposed to bleed the furthest caliper first and make your way round to the closest one, including the rear load/bias valve mentioned above.

    Relative poverty

codes wont assist on the ABS. But if you have a search on pradopoint forum, they have the procedure for what pins to jump on the diagnostics port. What Shayne said is right though. It's probably a dusty ABS sensor on wheel. It may even go away with driving the truck a bit.

Totally get where you're coming from and unfortunately we live in a society/world where hard work doesn't equally translate to success or wealth. But I also see a lot of people who trap themselves in this poverty by life choices they make. And this doesn't set there children up for great...

    Loosing Power Again!!

Hook up a boost gauge and make sure the turbo's boosting as it should. If it is, check the line that runs to the MAP sensor to make sure the ECU is seeing the boost levels. You could also have a blockage in the line somewhere?

1KZ-TE Fuel Starvation / Spill Control Valve

Check the valve towards the bottom rear of the pump. That is needed to start too. I believe it adjusts fuel pressure. If the RPM sensor fails, it will want to cut the engine. I've had some spill control sensors read within spec but still be bad. There are also filters in the pump. One under the...

1KZ-TE Fuel Starvation / Spill Control Valve

The tach dying would indicate the RPM sensor (the white plug on top of the pump) is losing a signal and therefore the engine thinks it's not running thus turning it off. I'd check the wires on this. You can also check the resistance of just about all the sensors including the SCV and see if they...

DPF problems on Hilux and Prado

I think the whole DPF problems come down to how you drive the vehicle. They need long runs occasionally to convert deposits into ash. Apparently poor fuel can also cause clogged DPF's. On the VW forum, America suffers more DPF related issues than Europe. I'm assuming Europe has better diesel...

    Took the 80 to Krown

You should post some pictures if possible. What one person may deem as terrible rot, might not be so bad to someone else and maybe it's more repairable than you think. Is this area structural?

    Took the 80 to Krown

I've never really been a fan of applying any products on top of rust. Over the 20 years of protecting my truck, I did it once with a "rust proof" product and it did indeed accelerate the rust. I think it helped trap moisture underneath.

Replace Prado AWD to 4x2 and save fuel.

I never mentioned anything regarding the front suspension. Maybe you misread. Anyways, it sounds like you're going through a lot of effort chasing a couple more MPG when the likelihood is that the engine may just need some servicing done. Best of luck.

1 hdft oil pressure and turbo issue

I don't know about this particular engine but that does not seem like a lot of oil. And if that's the case maybe the bearings failed on the turbos due to lack of oil. I'd connect a oil pressure gauge (or maybe read the ECU one if possible) to see what the engine is putting out. Check the oil...

Replace Prado AWD to 4x2 and save fuel.

I believe the one or two people I've heard do this only save 1-2mpg at best. They also comment on the front end steering become a little lighter and feeling less controlled. In my opinion, not worth it for the hassle you'll go through. Also much easier to fit free wheeling hubs then swapping the...

Timing belt snapped (1HD FT 300.400km)

Damn, first cruiser I know of that suffered a timing belt failure. Do you know when it was last changed? I think normal interval change is about 70k miles and having done over 4 now, they all come off looking in great shape still. Yup, interference engine so likely that the pistons hit the...

Project 'red van' (says the 4 year old) build thread

Regarding the drain plug, worse case scenario you could manually pump out the oil from the fill plug and then re-fill. You might not be able to get 100% of it out but it should be OK. I think the rear diff goes through a lot more wear than the front anyway.

If you were in a hotter climate or tow a lot I'd say ditch the rad cooler and run the trans on a separate circuit (This is what I did) but you might be best keeping it to help heat the trans up in colder climates. Over here in the states, the 4runner people use extended lines for the rear...

Cross country ultimate top mount intercooler.

Michael, on the plus side an intercooler can save a engine should a turbo fail as small debris would get caught and not grenade the actual engine. Plus, the amount of stock turbo vehicles that come fitted with an intercooler, it's actually more of a concern why toyota didn't fit all there...
