I want to be a mechanic

Well Rich I learned this lesson already a few years ago. My brother in law ran a LandRover garage for some years in Kinshasa. When his company switched to Landcruiser he had to lay off most of the local mechanics.

My cruiser seems to come from the planet Tatooine but I'm from Glabbeek (Tienen-Diest-area). What about you ?

    1hdft pump tuning

Thanks for this interesting discussion but something seems to have been left out. On my 24V the screw on top of the diaphragm doesn't sit in the middle. Hence it can't push directly against the "axe de reglage" (as per Shayne's drawing) or boost compensator pin. I think the screw is attached...

Well Maxinstall, I'm curious but I don't have permission to view your album. I might not be a trusted member yet, just don't know how to become one.

ar bumper although the terrain doesn't look too bumpy. I would read that as it beig too low in the rear. Could the rear springs be tired ?

    Intermittent speedo fault

Hi Starcruiser, I have no idea whether this is still relevant for you but here is something you can do before you start spending : (I have a LHD) behind the glove box, locate IG1. Pin 18 carries the speedo sensor signal, the wire is coloured red/orange. Connect a volt meter or better even a...

I want to be a mechanic

Hi there, I'm not entirely new to this forum, I posted some replies, but I forgot to introduce myself. Not so polite, so let me put this straight. I bought a '95 80 series three years ago. It has the 24V engine and a 24V starter. I love the way is starts in a fraction of a second. The car is...

    Engine fan viscous unit......

My temp gauge is already modified to Dave2000 instructions. But I didn't expect the fan to run and roar on a motorway at 110km/h & 20°C,not towing anything. Do you have that behaviour from the new Aisin coupling ? I'm also considering a swap, just don't know what to expect.

    Engine fan viscous unit......

Is this to say that if I hear my fan engaging and roaring every so many minutes while driving on the highway in warm weather, it is actually starting to fail the way Towpack's did ? I've never seen the engine temperature go up before it engages and can't see it go down after it engaged.

Engine and air con cooling fans.

Why do you need a condenser fan and idle up for AC ? Well cooling power (inside the car) is proportional to the amount of refrigreant (R134a) that can be evaporated in any amount of time. In the PH diagram from point 3 to 2. Constant pressure means constant temperature (9°C here). Higher...

    1hdfte coolant leak

Hi Mason, I don't know if the 100 has the same temperature gauge as the 80 but this might be of interest to you if you want to get more accurate temperature readings and maybe prevent overheating : https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/93-97-coolant-temperature-gauge-modification.64252/

Air con for 80 series required

After quite some traveling in Africa, I found that a aircon is nice for when you are driving on highways (i.e. roads on which you can drive fast for a long time) e.g. for a transfer from one city to another. You tend to want to close the windows and it is something you can do during a time of...

Are 80 series factory diff lockers any good?

IMHO a faulty feed-back of the "locked-in" position should be attended to. The diff lock ECU will open the rear and front diff above 5km/h to avoid accidents. I imagine this function will not work properly if the feed-back is missing. You might also forget. I had the same problem, solved it...

Power steering and AC idle up

Hi, I'm new to this forum so let me introduce my LC first. It's a '95 80 with 1HDFT and manual transmission and 240KKms on the odo. It's a heavy duty version, without any luxury items but with a 24V starter. I love the way it cranks and starts in a fraction of a second. To the point now, the...
