    BJ42 ride horrible!!!

Hi Tony Is that in May next year? I might be touring USA and Mexico in my Crew Cab in May. If Lincomb is another date(s) then, sure, let's fix up something.

    BJ42 ride horrible!!!

Oh man! Yes, that would be rough. My HJ47 Crew Cab and my FJ45 pickup both have 11 leaves in rear. The ride in the FJ45 is rough, but the ride in the HJ47 Crew Cab is soft and smooth - really nice. However, the HJ47 Crew Cab has much heavier duty springs, but it is also much heavier that any...

    BJ42 ride horrible!!!

Hello Guys Thank you all for your guidance. Yep, the shackle angle is too vertical and I guess a lot of that is because the springs are very curved with inbuilt helpers activated all the time. There are 8 leaves in the rear springs, forgot to count front ones: see pic (no that's not an oil...

    BJ42 ride horrible!!!

G.day folks Well my 'new' addition to the fleet has arrived - the BJ42 3B 5-speed from Australia (pics below). Cute or what?, seriously lovely looking, including inside. Bit of rust here and there on body but that's it; underneath is amazing only the winch has a bit of surface rust, otherwise...

    Thinking of buy an BJ42

Incidentally, somewhere between late July and mid August I shall be taking my 42 on a run from UK to Turin and back, so if you would like to have a drive of a 42 to assess what they are like then just ask. Cliffy

    Thinking of buy an BJ42

Hello Vertigo and welcome I have a BJ42, an FJ45 and (my 'flagship') an HJ47 Crew Cab, and broadly agree with Rodger's and others' comments. Personally, I would say that you can get any parts you need, and I myself go first to Terrain Tamer - they have a European office in France, where you'll...

    FJ45 pickup - project 'Elvis'

Hi Snowbound The pickup is a 1981, 4 speed. Not sure about brakes as truck is garaged and I won't see it until next week. That stuff behind the cab is a DIY job by previous owner, and I'm taking it all off to return this truck back to original style. The current bed is quite a feature and I...

    FJ45 pickup - project 'Elvis'

Thanks Tony and Nick Yes, will keep you all updated during the coming weeks. I must admit, it seems a bit of a pity to remove the 2F engine in a way - the engine is so quiet and smooth compared with my crew cab with the 2H, but I know the fuel consumption for a 2F would be horrible. This truck's...

    FJ45 pickup - project 'Elvis'

Quick update: 'Elvis' had its MOT today and, despite coming from a region of Australia with no 'testing' and having been used in the outback for 35 years, all he failed on was : a roll-bar link; an indicator light; and brakes not balanced right! Not bad huh!

    FJ45 pickup - project 'Elvis'

Hi All Thought you might be interested in my 2nd project - this rather tired old FJ45 pickup, which I intend to restore and convert to a 2H. I've put a little piece on FB about it, and will update accordingly https://www.facebook.com/LandCruiser-HJ47-crew-cab-137492866421490/ Plus some...

    Snorket problems...

Thank you all very much - you've been great! Apologies for delay getting back, been busy and today got back a couple of hours ago from picking up the 'new' FJ45 from the docks - will post something with 'Elvis' in title so you can see! I asked Don Kyatt/Terrain Tamer in Australia about the...

    Snorket problems...

Hi All I can't seem to figure out exactly how the under-bonnet connections should be for the Safari snorkel I've fitted. At the moment the pipe that should connect the snorkel to the filter inlet doesnt fit in the gap (see pic) and I cant see how it can?! The snorkel itself is fitted exactly...

    HJ47 suspension lift?

Hello Folks May I pick your brains again please? My 47 dual cab has 31" wheels, which I think ought to be 33s, as the 31s look a bit 'lost' on it! However, I know this would need a bit more space above the wheels for plenty of suspension room so I looked into a proper 2.5" lift. I may have to...

    Tilt test

Thanks Shayne Agreed. I can't see me paying a lot of money for that test anyway, I had figured on about £200. I can get good spotlights, or a roof tent for what they want! And as you say, it's not real life! Cheers Cliffy

Great scenery there in Romania Clive. Very tempting. I'm also going to the TLC Series 4 in France in may. Incidentally, here's a film of 4x4 in YT. Go to time: 6.50 and watch that LC80, it doesn't roll despite a crazy angle and sliding.

Hi Clive Yes, I know what you mean about that kind of sliding. I wonder whether altering weight/load distribution would help? Just watching your YT movies now.

Hi Clive Thanks for the compliments, she is lovely and I'm gradually getting her restored. Yes, the wheels/tyres are same all round - it's just the camera perspective. You can see various pics of the truck on my 'truck FB page if you wish. It was a bit rough when I got it but I've had a lot...

    Tilt test

Hi Clive Believe me I know the feeling of gripping a wheel and wondering! In Wales (couple of pics here for your info) I was at 30 degrees (not in these pics) and knuckles were white (really). This pic is only about 15 degrees and it was 'concerning' from inside. Of course it was actually...

The colour is original too. Under dash etc is all the same. Obviously originally this was a pickup, but the mining industry commissioned Arkana (Aus coach-builder company) to convert a number into crew cabs back in the 1980s. So, they had to paint the new body sections to match, but I've seen...

Hi again Clive Thanks again for all this. I've never visited Romania, but from everything I've heard about it and seen on YT (offroad trips) it sounds amazing. I shall pencil it in as a possible trip. Always interested in trips! Talk again soon Cliffy
