    Mama's LC won't start

Thx for the suggestions, but batteries are brand new and well charged. This is the same car I had a wiring fire some time back so I'm assuming this is still a hangover. I tried buying a wiring loom for the front but Megazip couldn't supply, saying no longer being made. Seems I'll have to strip...

    Mama's LC won't start

Hi All, As per above, Mama's LC HZJ81 won't start. Iv'e tested voltages on the starter relay and 12/24v changeover switch and can get at most 6v on the coil wires. Where to look to find the missing 6v? Is there another relay or something specific in the loom that is causing the volt drop? Open...

    Engine Bay Fire!

Hi All, well I got mamas car running pretty quickly by replacing a whole bunch of burnt wiring. Now I've come to a dead end and I can't get the AC, dash lights and headlights working. Obviously I'm missing something. I feel I need to buy a new/used wiring harness for my model. Can any of the...

    Engine Bay Fire!

Frank, RHD here. StarCruiser, I think the battery box managed to short through the loom. Both fenders on which the batteries rest have started to subside with all the beating they take offroad here. My nearest tar road is 45km's away so we do about 90% of driving on dirt. Depending on what...

    Engine Bay Fire!

Morning All, a week ago Sunday we had a fire when wiring loom caught alight at front left where the loom passes behind the headlight and in front of the battery. Didn't think to take a pic of the fire, too busy extinguishing! Anyway I stripped out everything in the way then slowly tried to trace...

    CDL controller??

Hi All, Rapidly approaching mud season, so am forced to repair both CDL actuators on mamas 1HZ permanent 4wd and my 1HDT standard. I bought a used unit off mud to do repairs and got the 1HDT working fine. After installing the repaired unit on the 1HZ I can't get it to respond to the CDL dash...

    Brights not working

Most of our vehicles are Jap import 2nd-hand. Both my 80's are actually 81's. I'll keep swopping parts with mamas car till I find the problem. Second question was where is the "key-in-ignition" buzzer? I really need to strangle that bastard!

    Brights not working

Hi All, I've checked that the main relay under the bonnet works and all lights are on a dimmed. When moving stalk to bright, dims die and brights don't come on. I've tried flicking the stalk multiple times and sometimes the brights activate. Question, stalk or another well hidden relay issue...

    Loosing coolant

They always say problems come in three's. Well a little trip to town, 150km's away, and the heater pipe coming out of the block on left side sprung a leak. I thought this might be the larger problem. I made a marifa plan and blocked off the entire heater circuit. Next issue was an apparent slow...

    Loosing coolant

OK, did the cold start and rev thing. When removing rad cap there is no spray, but seems to be a slight vacuum and level has dropped by a couple of centimeters. Added about 250ml, cup, and tried the cold start and rev again. Same results. Needed to add a cup full. I did a sundowner trip, not...

    Loosing coolant

I made a short vid but technology got the better of me. Too large to upload. It clearly shows small bubbles on start-up and then the level of the coolant rising slowly until it overflows. What now?

    Loosing coolant

Been slack this weekend, Friday night was a wine tasting event, so that took care of any Saturday work. Sunday the misses insisted on going fishing so I took my KTM and took the loooong way around to the dam. I'll get more active this week. I did notice that when starting the car cold with rad...

    Loosing coolant

Hadn't thought to look at the rear heater. Not exactly needed here in the tropics. I borrowed a mates pressure tester and pumped the system up to 15psi and only noticed a very slow pressure loss. Like 1psi in 10 minutes. I would put that down to the tester connections rather than the system...

    Loosing coolant

Damn! Hope it's not so serious. Got some advice today. Tie a plastic bag to the overflow pipe and go for a drive and see if coolant is actually passing the rad cap. eliminate one thing at a time I suppose.

    Loosing coolant

Hi All, My 1HZ has been loosing up to 1 liter of coolant per trip/day. I noticed some staining on the rad from the plastic header so pulled the rad and stripped and cleaned the header gasket etc. All together and no more leaks there, but...engine is still loosing coolant. There are no traces of...

    Minimalist rear bumpers

Somewhere I've seen pics of some very neat and tidy rear bumpers that don't stick a yard out behind the car. Of course now I can't find any in the search. Thinking of just a two pipe under-body with a tow hitch. No need for samson size wheel carriers etc. Any and all pics welcome. :)

    Speedo works, trip counters not

Hi All, Mama's car just got back from the panel-beaters and during a test run I noticed the KM counters don't turn although the speedo reads just fine. I stripped out the meters and I see that the speedo gets an electronic input, no speedo cable. I assume there is some motor driven doohickey...

    Testing the 4WD

Hi All, Again with the slow answer, my personal LC has rear/2-wheel drive as permanent and onle engages the front when the CDL is activated, either by pushing the button or engaging low range. Not many happy options otherwise. Hence the need for free-wheel hubs to stop the front prop and...

Again, it's been a while. So at the end of July after a full mud season with no 4x4 and several tows later I got under the car. Seems there have been some "modifications" done by the PO.
