Wanted new or used OEM starter.

hi Frank did you manage to find these? I am looking for the same. Bought a 12v starter from Wood Auto but that has started giving me issues. Looking for a good used genuine one that I can rebuild with new contacts and brushes etc also seen some Yanmar ones that match close part numbers on...

12 volt starting conversion on a 1997 24 valve manual 80 series LandCruiser

Thanks. Another quick question - the 3+ fusible links and plug attached to the positive terminal of the right hand side battery (see pic attached) - what do each of those power? I want (once the 12v starter is in and I have a dual battery system installed) my RHS battery to only serve as an...

PWR button on HDJ81 auto non functional

Hi. The PWR button on my 81 is non functional. No dash light and no change to gear changes. Have checked the dash bulb and that is ok. 2nd start button that is next to it and on same assembler works fine. What could the issue be?

12 volt starting conversion on a 1997 24 valve manual 80 series LandCruiser

This is a great write-up and I am finally looking to do this on my 80. Have a 12V starter from Wood Auto ready to go in. The one question I have is that on a different forum (link attached below, hoping to cause no offence), there is mention that the two green and one white wire from the...

    1KZ - low boost resolved

Hi. This may help someone.... for a few days now I noticed that the aftermarket boost gauge started progressively showing lower boost. Down from 0.8bar to 0.5 then 0.2. Almost feared the worst as in a failing turbo or wastegate or even a slowly dying injector cutting fuel. Turned out...

Looking for ECU for my KZJ 78

Great news. Don't think you should worry at all about the slightly different number - it's the pain Toyota part number that's relevant.

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Had a longer run yesterday. Behaved well. Water temp did not go beyond 88 even when pulling up the Rift Valley escarpment road. On this section with number of trucks to overtake going uphill the AT temp went as high as 110 but would drop to 95ish when going steady and to 80 as overdrive locked...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Update after several weeks..... Gearbox was dropped and seal changed. That was a quick job other than the pain removing the box. However, as it was down, checked the transfer box and both output bearings seemed to be whining really badly. Opened that up and what a mess inside. Almost all the...

Looking for ECU for my KZJ 78

The ECU boards come in two halves - one bit that has all the suspect caps and the other bit with the ICs. To a non specialist eye, the caps that normally goes bad looked identical between the Surf and LC ECU and another option I had considered was to exchange the bottom board in entirety and...

Looking for ECU for my KZJ 78

Shayne may be right - try a 90 series Prado box - you will definitely find one of these here in Nairobi at least from a number of second hand shops. Try it before you but it. I did not try that in my car. Well worth a go. I do t think not shifting into overdrive will spoil anything else as long...

Looking for ECU for my KZJ 78

Is your car an auto or a manual? If a manual the best long term solution would be to get rid of the electronic injector and replace with a manual and get rid of the ECU or most of its functions at least. A lot harder to do if it's an auto as the same ECU controls the auto box but I read...

Looking for ECU for my KZJ 78

Jambo. His e mail is [email protected]. The replacement units are very hard to come by. It took me 2 years +. Have you had someone open yours to see what the problem is? It could simply be a couple of leaking caps. The caps can be obtained without too much challenge - going by your Kenyan...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Its in the Garage now - they will be changing the seal on the Transmission first. When that is done, I will be: 1. opening up the fan coupling and topping up oil - have ordered some 10000 cst oil for this. Will probably not go beyond 20ml to avoid full time lock-up 2. getting a separate trans...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Thanks Beau. Like your thread. Let me sort out the transmission leak first this week and once that is resolved will move on to a separate ATF cooler. Will also probably change the thermostat and the rad cap with genuine Toyota ones again. Although I was anyway running a 76 degree genuine...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Thanks for the advice. Any suggestions/web links to a good cooler? I suppose I should mount this right at the front before both the A/C rad and the normal coolant Rad. I will also be changing the rad cap on the new rad. Will go with a higher pressure 1.1 bar cap. The fan sounds ok - it does...

    Cooling the 1KZ-TE motor:

Hi all. I run the 1KZ TE in my KZJ 78, Auto Trans. My rad developed a pinhole leak which i plugged temporarily with Araldite. LJ73 1UZ build/repair in Dubai

Hey Ako, nice one. Hope you manage to sort out the small issues. What size tyres are you using on the 15" rims? I am looking to change my tyres but want to keep the original Toyota rims. Wondering what the largest size I can go to. Am thinking of 32" BFG AT KO2.

LJ71 electric to manual hub replacement

Hi. I could not open the link but I have done the swap on my LJ78. I used a good set of second hand complete hubs from a Toyota Hilux. Did bearing s amd seals at the same time plus put in new brake discs. Very happy with them and went in without much hassle. Yes it needs to be engaged and...

    Rear Springs for KZJ78

Hi Ben. Agree with you. Living in Kenya, the previous Dobinsons dealer here has shut down so could not get my hands on their 100KG set easily and without huge shipping cost so have opted for springs made for Robbs Majic here (TJM Approved distributor) - fitted to the car today and it feels much...

    Rear Springs for KZJ78

I have ruled out 1, 3, and 4 (using spacers or any form of 80 series front springs). I am going for springs made for the 78 rear - heavy duty. Re Airbags, am really keen on this but was under the car yesterday and have noted that there is no real upper support for them at the top of the spring...

KZJ78 1KZ TE misfire at higher revs

KZJ78 1KZ TE misfire at higher revs

Tried the fuel swap using good diesel from a can. No change even after running engine for 30 mins. Guess fuel not the issue. Wiring also seems to be all ok. I have however noted a couple of things - injector one looks a little damp on the outside including the head right around it. No...

KZJ78 1KZ TE misfire at higher revs

Thanks Starcruiser and Shayne. Possibly a stupid question - how do I turn the fuel down? Also on the subject of Damp, I did have the engine hosed down last week with water (not high pressure) to clean up dust from a trip. Could there still be damp lurking around about 350Km driving later...

KZJ78 1KZ TE misfire at higher revs

Thanks for the reply. It's not loosing water and engine oil is at correct level. Engine had done 230K and had low compression hence overhaul. Full overhaul was a complete rebuild with new rings bearings valves guides etc. It was professionally done using only genuine toyota parts.
