    Sourcing a CT20 Turbo for LJ70

Hi, I'm looking to source a CT Turbo for my LJ70 - 1992 first registration, exact production date unknown. Looking at E-bay there are a few Chinese based suppliers of CT20 turbo's. Anyone here any experience with the quality of these (chinese) CT20's ? Price range of these CT20's is around...

Short Circuit in Super Glow pre-heating system - LJ70

Totally agree - better get it fused. The part number is 90982-08236 - bit hard to find. Here is what it looks like. Definitely not available / on stock in where I'm at. The fuses are the wires itself - created to burn out on purpose.

Short Circuit in Super Glow pre-heating system - LJ70

The fusible link did its job and blew after replacing the connector with thick wiring. Now I've replaced the fusible link with a normal piece of wire. Have to look to replace that temporary wire too sometime. Now a few odd starts since the stem valve seals fall in place. To name few odd starts...

Short Circuit in Super Glow pre-heating system - LJ70

Its indeed a fusible link found near the battery. The plastic cap seems to show the fuse rating. The fuse is not inside the cap, just connector loops to connect the fusible wires. (2 pieces) The fuse is on the fact the wire (fusible link) which burnt out with Smoke & Smell after i replaced the...

Short Circuit in Super Glow pre-heating system - LJ70

Yes - glad I found the short-circuit, now starts like a charm in cold weather. Still baffled why there isn't any (heavy) fuse in the Super Glow circuitry. The schematics seems to shows 3 icons which seem to be fuses? In the Super Glow wiring in my LJ70 there is none to be found - burning out...

Short Circuit in Super Glow pre-heating system - LJ70

Hi, thanks for your thought - I went at it straight away this afternoon. Found the root cause - the wire connection to the glowplug railing was fitted the wrong way! The black isolation cap in the picture is now fitted correctly in the above picture. Before the wire was connected to the TOP...

Short Circuit in Super Glow pre-heating system - LJ70

Below a bit about the Super Glow pre-heating system in the LJ70. Bottom line; my LJ70 has a short circuit somewhere in the glow-plug system. My question: Any hints in finding a short-circuit? Her's the runnup of events with a few interesting facts; Recently, with the weather getting colder, i...

Occasional puff of white smoke at start

Thanks for the thoughts - much appreciated. A test with temporarily removing the metal tube between inlet manifold and turbo is a good idea. The condition to let the truck smoke blue is easy to reproduce. In the meanwhile I found a few bits of info why a turbo can leak oil at low RPM or...

Occasional puff of white smoke at start

The valves have been tested with a air pressure tool made from an old glowplug. Each cylinder was put under 8 Bar air pressure to have the valves pop-up during valve stem seal replacement. All valves were air tight during the procedure, no abnormalities there. The LJ70 has been kept on Idle...

Occasional puff of white smoke at start

More news on the white smoke issue - it's still there :mask: In the meanwhile the 2L-T engine has - new valve stem seals - new distribution belt - all valves & glow plugs tested OK - jets have been replaced - diesel pump overhauled. The new valve stem seals are installed without lifting...

2L-T 2.4 TD crankcase ventilation - PCV Valve in there?

Hi all, Does anyone here know if the 2L-T 2.4TD engine has a PCV valve somewhere (hidden) in the crankcase ventilation tubing or head cover? I had a look at it today and it seems there's no visible valve installed in the tubing running from the cylinder head cover to the Turbo inlet hose...

Land Cruiser LJ70 engine temperature too low

Hi Bryon, It's a simple pocket temperature measurement tool, just for a rough indication. Got it from here a few years ago; https://www.conrad.de/de/infrarot-thermometer-voltcraft-ir-110-1s-optik-11-33-bis-110-c-pyrometer-122322.html Cheers! Arno

Land Cruiser LJ70 engine temperature too low

With summer approaching the engine temperature of my LJ70 TD2.4 was simply too low after a 30 minute drive. I noticed it earlier though didn't worry about it too much - it was a very slow change covering weeks. With day temperature at 32 degrees Celsius (89 F) and the engine temp gauge still...

    No start due to heatsoak

One things that's noticeable after a few days; The starter motor sounds like there's more energy, turning the engine just a bit more faster. Although it's a subtle difference in starting sound, it's especially noticeable during the first cold start. Let's see!

    No start due to heatsoak

A new no-start occurrence with my LJ70 TD2.4 this week, this time one that took a while to resolve. Earlier this month I had a bad starter relay, See here; Now a totally different No-Start situation..... The engine was hot - it simply didn't start after 30 mins after turning it off...

Exact production date LJ70 TD2.4 series

After quite a bit of digging on the net; The chassis number above doesn't correspond with most of the VIN specs I found for Toyota. The 10th digit doesn't correspond with the year codes. (Zero doesn't exist) It seems that the LJ70s manufactured in the EU (Finland?) the chassis number has a bit...

Exact production date LJ70 TD2.4 series

For parts I'm looking for the exact production year & month for my LJ70 TD2.4 (2L-T engine) So far it seems the production year - month can only be decoded from the serial number. First registration date says November 1992 Though production date usually is a few months earlier at least...

Occasional puff of white smoke at start

Thanks for the hints! The glow plug got me thinking and already checked them with the ohm meter. (with common rail detached) Plugs seem ok during measurement. My suspicion is the glow plug relay not engaging properly at all times. It's an occasional symptom only seen so far at cold start. So...

Occasional puff of white smoke at start

Once in a while my LJ70 2.4TD starts with a puff of white smoke at engine start. In all cases it's at cold start, never at warm or hot start. The start with the white puff sounds a bit rough with a bit more engine shake than normal. I was wondering if it's possible one of the diesel jets...

Extra air intake pipe on LJ70 TD2.4

Never thought about that, seen the resonator pipes between air-filter box & turbo in large trucks, though not as a side pipe connected to the main line. The turbo makes a nice sound in my LJ70, though i think the CT20 is up for replacement in the next year as I suspect it's sending a bit too...

    Clutch slave cylinder

Replaced the slave clutch cylinder for my 1992 LJ70 a few months ago. Replacement is done best from underneath, quite a simple task. Order a new clutch line as well, the old one may crack during the replacement of the slave cylinder. If it's already leaking, be prepared for a new seal in the...

    Starter motor 'click'

    The Cruiser won't start "CLICK"

Have been chasing random occasional "Click" in my Land Cruiser LJ70 for more than a month, left stranded suddenly in awkward places. My LJ70 has a new starter motor, new battery and checked all wiring over and over. Yesterday I had the "Click" at home - great occasion to get it diagnosed...
