    1HD-FT Emissions control manual ERM111E

@nielsc I am very interested in the manual if you still have it available, please! I can read Dutch too so you won't need to translate anything. My 1HD-FT's sluggishness is driving me bananas!

    Intermittent Sluggishness 1997 HDJ80 1HD-FT

@frank rabbets I crawled underneath and found the breather line where you said. I removed the breather valve and from what I could tell, it had been installed back to front. I went for a drive without it fitted and no dramas then put it back on the way it had the least ammount of resistence...

    Intermittent Sluggishness 1997 HDJ80 1HD-FT

So I've driven without the fual cap fitted and I'm not getting any of the issues I've had before i.e. fuel starvation, intermittent lack of power etc. I don't want to leave the cap off all the time as I don't want condensation building up inside the tank and causing issues further down the...

    Intermittent Sluggishness 1997 HDJ80 1HD-FT

@IRLGW , I drove this morning without the fuel cap fitted and that seems to have done the trick as far as I can tell, but it's a bit early to tell and I don't want to jinx it. I've stripped the fuel cap and it didn't seem too dirty, but I gave it a scrub and clean anyway as it couldn't hurt...

I've not noticed any smoke at all at any point tbh. I'll check the other bits over the weekend and post my findings.

Haha, you've got me there! All I've had a chance to do so far is fit a genuine Toyota fuel filter, it's helped a little bit but still every now and then it almost feels like it's barely got enough power to get up a hill, but other times it seems fine. No I haven't checked the breather, didn't...

Chassis Rear Crossmember Repair or Replace?

Update: Managed to find a crossmember with very little rust and rear section of the chassis rail, I thought it would be a lot easier to just replace the rusted out section with a piece from another rail as I'm not an experienced fabricator and I intend to replace the spare wheel carrier and the...

Grimbo, if they are EGR related, can I do away with them then? Also I don't get any smoke when flooring it, so there's a positive I guess. The exhaust fumes are really strong though, even more so than what I've noticed from larger diesel engines I've been around to in the past, but I'm sure...

Traced the fuel feed hose from the tank to the lift pump and on to the IP, but can't see any diesel spots on hoses themselves, I'm tempted to just replace both, just to be sure.

Towpack, so far I haven't been able to locate any hose connecting the turbo to the injection pump and no, I don't have any means of checking the boost pressure. The previous owner has deleted the EGR, and I'm still trying to get my head around all the rubber hoses and switches which connect to...

I'll have a look I don't have any ticking from the injection pump that nielsc described, at least not from what I can tell. Is there a way to test the lift/prime pump other than swapping it for a different one and see if the problem persists? I'll trace the fuel lines from the tank forwards...

    Intermittent Sluggishness 1997 HDJ80 1HD-FT

Grimbo, noticed it around August, I've only owned it since July and I have since changed the filter when I serviced it about two months ago, albeit not with a genuine Toyota filter. I will try the genuine filter and see what happens from there. Thanks for your advice!

Update. I removed the fuel pickup to have a peek inside the tank and see if there was any blockages or sedement in the fuel which might be causing the issues I've been having, but to both my relief and dissapointment the fule pickup unit and inside of the tank look pristine. I decided to...

Looking for some advice on the best way to diagnose some intermittent sluggishness I've been having. I drive my '97 HDJ80 most days and sometimes it pulls like a train and other time is struggles a bit. I believe it might be a fuel pick up issue as I've noticed when driving up hill sometimes...

That makes perfect sense about it having been used to launch a boat as a prvious owner who had it for 7 years was in Exeter! Thank you Clive for your insight! I have got a welder lined up, but I'll do the cleaning and prep work myself to save some money.

Chassis Rear Crossmember Repair or Replace?

Yeah, I think that spare wheel hadn't seen the light of day for a long time untill I finally removed it. That's probably the root cause of the rust, with it being in such a tight confined space and the silencer blocking anything from getting in or out!

Chassis Rear Crossmember Repair or Replace?

Recently purchased a 1997 Land Cruiser 80 series. Long story short, after having had to cut the spare wheel bracket to get the spare wheel off, as the mechanism was rusted soild, I have found some bad corrosion on the back right portion of the frame rail and the inside of the rear cross...
