    Rear door not latching

Eventually I took it in to my local independent, as the driver's window was going clonk and I also wanted the rearview camera to be looked at. When they took it apart they found that the latch was gummed up with crap but otherwise working fine. The regulator was hitting another part that had...

    Rear door not latching

Rob, do you mean that you can mechanically open/close it from inside? I've poked the latch mechanism with a screwdriver and it certainly moves, and seems to OK, but hard to tell...

Thanks very much. Initially I thought this might be it, but turned out not to be the case, sadly.

    Rear door not latching

Just half an hour ago I loaded the 120 for a trip to the dump and found the door would not latch shut! So that's been cancelled. I've taken a look and it seems that the door will close fully but the latch will then not "click" or catch around the piece of metal that sticks out on the body of the...

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

I don't think they're that much taller, but I haven't measured. I would still be tempted to go for two of the original size.

    Loosing Power Again!!

When I had a similar problem it was the turbo, the vanes of which had seized up. Had to get it reconditioned by a specialist.

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

In the end, I put in the old battery and managed to loosen off the reluctant nut. Now I've got two new Yuasa batteries in the engine bay, one that fits perfectly and one that's a bit large. I should probably have gone for the pair of slightly-too-large batteries on eBay that somebody kindly...

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

Actually it won't - this was the easier option! If I could get the clamp to bend the other way it would be a different story. EDIT Looking at it again, maybe you're right, but it would be better if it I could adjust the clamp angle...

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

Passenger side is indeed fine (see below) and driver's side is not bad either, but I'm having problems with the negative terminal on the driver's side. It is a two-part assembly, and it has been set up with a bend in the assembly. I would like the bend to go the other way, but I cannot get the...

    Keys

My only key had a crack in it from the day I bought the vehicle. It was OK until one morning I sat on it and broke off the shaft. This made it difficult to use the key, as you can imagine. I got a "blank" key fob with transponder and tried reprogramming the 120 using a complicated sequence of...

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

I've ordered a YBX5096 and will see if the leads will reach if I install it on the passenger side, but turned around. If they don't reach, I will use it on the driver side and order something else for the passenger side. Pictures as and when I get it.

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

Afternoon! I have two more questions. 1) I measured this morning and the battery trays are only around 270mm long, so now thinking about the YBX5096 to give a bit more power. It only has "layout 0" for this battery, not "layout 1" with the positive and negative reversed, but presumably I would...

IOO Series bought unseen of ebay (I warned Him)

Had some relations over from Canada in the summer. Similar situation. Think they found the driving aspect of their stay rather tense, judging by the way they subconsciously gripped the seats as we went into corners. All perfectly safe, of course.

IOO Series bought unseen of ebay (I warned Him)

You learn to drive at a relaxed pace on roads this narrow, whatever your size of vehicle. In Pembrokeshire you get high banks (flying hedges) on either side of the road as well, just to cut visibility further...

IOO Series bought unseen of ebay (I warned Him)

When I was first looking for an LC in 2016, I think one of the forum members had a 100 (anniversary edition?) with about 130k on the clock that he had painstakingly restored and was selling for what now in retrospect looks like a very good price. Think around £12k? That would have been a good...

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

It's certainly a good price, thank you for finding that. The length, however, is different - 303mm I think. Perhaps one can get longer trays? EDIT: I checked my existing Halfords battery, and that is no more than 300mm in length, but it still does overflow the battery tray. I wouldn't mind, but...

Indicators and hazard fuse blowing, then won't start: battery?

A 15A fuse blew recently in my 2004 120-series, the one for indicators and hazards. I replaced it, and took the 120 to my local independent, who checked for shorts but couldn't find anything obvious. We agreed to wait until it happened again and that I would make a note of which was indicating...

Graunching noise at full right lock

Hello everybody, not visited for a while, simply because the 120 keeps slogging quietly on. I use it as my daily driver and love it. However, as of a few days ago I have noticed a sort of grinding noise from the right front wheel when turning to the right, but only at full lock. It's a kind of...

    Waterproof seat covers

I used https://www.titancovers.co.uk/ for my 120, which is also 2006. You can access the rear belts with these. The material is very tough, seems waterproof (as claimed) and feels like it will wear well. Only downside is that it takes a couple of weeks for them to get the product to you.

Brakes binding / dash lights flashing?

The mechanic checked the diagnostics, which indicated an ABS fault. He pulled out the ABS sensor and it was corroded and mucky. He replaced it and says the diagnostics now run clear. There have been no problems or warning lights since it was replaced, although I have done about 600 miles over...

Brakes binding / dash lights flashing?

The warning lights came on again today - handbrake (I think?) "exclamation mark" light; ABS, VSC off and one other VSC light. That aside, the car seems fine. Going on a longish trip with the family soon, so slightly concerned. Will call the local garage on Monday morning.

Brakes binding / dash lights flashing?

This afternoon I was moving at low speed (walking pace) in a car park looking for somewhere to put the vehicle when I felt the brakes find a little bit then come off. I wasn't sure whether I had touched them or not at first, but then it happened again then several times. It was a kind of...

    Buzzweld and other rust protection

Trevor, I appreciate the confirmation about the volume. I suspect that in some cases the pricing is keen because they are not as careful as you and spend less time. In some other cases they may simply be more efficient because that is all that they do: rustproofing, all day every day. The more...

    Buzzweld and other rust protection

Your "ramblings" are useful, thank you. You make a persuasive case for the best approach being strip and paint. Unfortunately I suspect it's just not practical for the vast majority of people. Much easier with a motorbike, of course.

    Buzzweld and other rust protection

Thanks - the price is certainly right... Do you think they'd clean the rust off if I asked them, and was prepared to pay for their time?

    Buzzweld and other rust protection

My 120 has quite a bit of rust underneath, nothing structural but it still needs attention before it gets, well, structural. Buzzweld has been mentioned a few times on the forum by people interested in trying it, but I have not seen a report from anybody who has actually had it done. I was...

Loss of power under hard acceleration

Good morning everybody, just an update on the situation here. I was out of the country for about three weeks so the garage had ample time to play with it. They did indeed send the turbo off to a specialist and the specialist did indeed find that one of the vanes was seized. The turbo was...

    Touchscreen system in a 120

Thanks Jack, that's reassuring. At least now I know that I can put in a 178 mm by 100 mm (or maybe as much as 105 mm?) stereo. Your model looks great but is a bit more than I want to spend. Unfortunately, most of the Pioneer models seem to be 165 mm by 118 mm, so that's probably significantly...

    Touchscreen system in a 120

Thanks for the advice; I may well do that. Having had an extended email conversation with the other vendor, it turns out that they had included the price of the Pioneer navigation module in the quote, which may explain why it was several hundred pounds higher than I expected. They have given me...

Loss of power under hard acceleration

I have just come back from talking to the mechanic and he believes it is this. There are two spindles inside (I think he said they are nested inside each other but maybe I misunderstood?) and he thinks they have seized and as a result it appears to the ECU that it is over-boosting, and as a...

Loss of power under hard acceleration

Thank you for your comments - I agree that an overreliance on diagnostics is not healthy! Fortunately the boss is very much an old school mechanic and I will have a chat with him soon as to whether it is really the turbo but is at fault and report back. For what it's worth, he thought it was...

Loss of power under hard acceleration

This is interesting. I spoke to the garage this morning and they reckon there's a problem with turbo and it's over-boosting. Both the main man and his assistant took it round the block and were able to reproduce the problem. It's fine if you're just trundling around, but if you floor it, goes...

    Touchscreen system in a 120

Having just bought my 120 series, I'm now looking to give it a proper audio system with Bluetooth and a few other bells and whistles.
