    HZJ75 sub-tank troubleshoot

They also had a problem with the wiring to the rear tank gauge being ripped off by a stick or bush, because it is poorly routed across the gap between cross members. Better to modify it by adding in a piece of cable to enable routing around to the chassis rail and then back to the next cross...

    HZJ75 sub-tank troubleshoot

I have two HZJ75's, and have worked on many others. None of them pump from the sub tank to the main tank. They have two solenoid operated valves, to swap fuel supply and fuel return, between main and sub tanks. These are Australian models. I have no idea where you are from, overseas models may...

    HZJ75 Power steering pump

My power steering pump is leaking. The vehicle has done 430,000km. It is probably the original pump, but it's definitely not been touched in the 220,000km that I've owned it. Do they generally respond well to a seal kit? Or better off replacing the pump completely? Best to go genuine? Or...

Dirty contacts at the base of the dip switch. Pull the steering wheel off, pull the switch out and clean up the contacts with some emery paper. Then reassemble. If it fixes the problem but doesn't last long, replace the entire switch.

HZJ75 or HZJ79 for overland camper?

HZJ79 : Pros: Stronger transmission (contrary to your research perhaps) More legroom and cabin space. Smoother ride due to the front coil springs. Cons: Plagued by the wobbles in the front end suspension and steering which need regular repairs. HZJ75: Pros: No problems in the front end...

    Technical Benefits of a Snorkel

The benefit is less dust. The factory Toyota ones are not waterproof anyway, so don't trust them for deep water crossings. Apparently some of the aftermarket ones claim to be waterproof.

Tail lights/ dash lights not working

First place that I would check is the wiring at the rear of the vehicle, for breaks, shorts, etc. Anywhere at the rear is susceptible to damage from stones, sticks, etc, especially the trailer connection socket if it has one. Also check for badly done wiring where the trailer socket has been...

    HZJ 75 Aftermarket hub help

If you haven't sorted it out by now, I would insist that the seller of the hub supplied studs to suit. If they can't, ask for your money back and get a genuine hub and studs.

    HZJ 75 Aftermarket hub help

Sorry mate, HZJ75 do have disc brakes on the rear from the factory. I have two of them. One is a 1995 and the other is a 1996. The earlier 75's had drums on the rear, and some of the overseas models had drums until right through the 79 series.

    HZJ75 faulty speedo

I'm pretty sure I wasn't going 180 kmh in 4th gear with my standard 1HZ. Anyone seen a HZJ75 speedo show about three times the speed that it should? Any ideas about if it is an easy fix? The odometer numbers seem to be running about right.

Check the fusible link wire at the positive terminal of the battery. There are three, one of them is for the headlights. It's the one that has a single connector plug, not the two that go to the small connector block.

How often to grease wheel bearings?

Normal use, don't worry about them until you have oil leaks from your steering knuckles and have to pull them apart for that. Or if you notice excessive free play when you rock the wheel back and forward you might have to check them out, but normally they will be fine until you have them off to...

    Glow plug lamp issues

No sorry, never done anything like that. Ours was a workhorse, not a show pony. I know that power steering was an option for the HJ47. Not sure what difficulties you would have fitting a HJ47 system, the steering pump mounts and belt drive would be the first to overcome.

    Glow plug lamp issues

Also, check the fusible link to make sure it is not burnt out and is properly connected. It's on the main battery cable, right by the positive battery terminal clamp.

    Glow plug lamp issues

Do you have a test light? Or a volt meter? See if there is power going to the terminals on top of the glow plugs when you turn the key to the glow position and you hear the relay click in.
  21. C

    Glow plug lamp issues

Okay, Turn the key backwards to the "glow" position. Do you hear the relay click near the glovebox? It's fairly loud, you will hear it easily if it is working.

    Glow plug lamp issues

I don't know what 'ty' means. But, if it starts, your glow plugs work, and either your indicator is burned out or you have a broken wire going to it. If it doesn't start, then the fault can be, relay, wiring, ignition switch, fusible link, etc. I was trying to keep it simple, but if you won't...

    Glow plug lamp issues

You said you assume that the glow plugs don't work. I asked you if it starts. Instead of answering, you say that they are not very old, and it's just the indicator light that doesn't work. This contradicts your original statement that you assume that they don't work, and didn't answer my...

    Landcruiser Ute

I've never done any swapping like that but I reckon it should work. Just remember the vent near the battery in the quarter panel which is really only cosmetic. One difference that I forgot to mention, may be that the front quarter panel on the HZJ75 have an indicator between the wheel arch and...

    Landcruiser Ute

HZJ75 has a 1HZ engine. HJ75 has a 2H engine. Very few body differences. They have a different radiator grille, and the HJ75 has a vent near the battery. Others may be able to add something else, but as far as I know there isn't a lot.

    Sub tank

Yeah righto, the reason I asked was that there is not much point connecting the solenoids into the loom if there is no switch at the other end to power it. It would be simple to just power the solenoids with a switch as you suggest. However, you may be horrified at the price of them, in...

    Sub tank

Okay. So you will have two fuel lines, a large one which supplies the fuel and a small one which is fuel return. The factory way of doing it, is to connect the hoses from both tanks to a solenoid valve which is actuated by a switch on the dashboard. There is a solenoid valve for the supply...

    Sub tank

Because it's not a sealed unit, therefore fuel will overflow out of the breather.
  42. C

    Sub tank

No. It won't work. End of story . If the two tanks were connected together, fuel from the higher tank would run to the lower tank and cause it to over flow. Also, if you disregarded that problem, when there was still some fuel in the lower tank, it would start to suck air from the higher tank...

    HJ45 diff into HJ75?
