Hi member,firstly happy new year to all. In the next few days I am needing to replace my rear offside brake caliper so obviously will need to bleed the brakes so can someone tell if I need to bleed just the one brake I have worked on or all four and if so what sequences should they be bled...

I have just been quote 8 hrs labour at £89.50 per hr to remove clean and re fit to oil pick-up by my local MrT they say it is virtually an engine out job,am I miss understanding something somewhere

This morning I have been to the dealership to ask them,one, to supply and fit the missing plastic bash plate and for that they have quoted me £172 plus labour plus vat. I secondly asked them to remove,clean and refit the oil pickup strainer and quoted me 8hrs labour at £89.50 so £716 plus vat...

So is this suggesting there is/was a leak on one or more of the injector seals.I have already refitted the plug and put back the oil so cannot without draining the oil again check if there is any carbon deposits,incidentally there was no plate in place to cover the sump and the drain plug so...

I have now drained the oil and checked the strainer which looks a little dirty but definitely not clogged up.Here are a couple of photos

Thanks Richard,I definitly dont have smoke coming from the exhaust and the car seem to run perfectly well.I think I will try gettint to see what the strainer looks like which hopefully will give a better indication if there is a problem.

So the leak the mechanic says he heard cannot exist as this would be an under pressure outward leak and there is no material evidence of such a leak so I think its time to ignore what the dealership has said and assume the car is a ok. Just to be doubly sure is it possible to check the oil...

Rob,the garage who did the change of seals was a general car repair and sales in Scotland I bought the car from and not the current local Toyota dealership.The seller did supply me with,what he said were the replaced seal which were copper,he did also say that the new ones he fitted were aluminium.

Rob did you find it difficult to fit? With a cursery look it looks like I might need to remove the bonnet plus the plastic cowl across the bottom of the screen to get to the mechanism.I am no mechanic but I fancy giving it a go myself,what can go wrong haha

I have managed to bend the arm slightly and I think it will now reach the bottom of the stroke before it hits the bonnet,just got to wait for it to rain,shouldn't be long being in Wales, to check the bend works.
