Auto gearbox issue or is it?

Thank you guys,Chris having been more diligent about applying the handbrake and then moving into park the warning lights have not been coming on so I guess your comments right.Hopefully the problem will not reoccur,so thanks again.

Auto gearbox issue or is it?

Hi All, If its not one thing its another. In the last week or so I have found that if I stop on an hill, going up or down and go from drive to park sometimes I then find it either difficult or impossible to get out of park.If the gear lever is stuck in park the VSC and TRC OFF warning light comes...

Thanks again Rob,this is the set I have ordered,I'm assuming its the full set of correct pins, sleeve and dust boot for both rear calipers. Regards Matthew PS this was the drawing I was referring to https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/toyota/part?catalog=GR&model_code=HZJ105L-GCMNS&group=4707

    Replacing calliper

Thanks Rob that puts my mind at rest. Can you tell me if the top and bottom sliders are different,I have looked at a couple of exploded drawings and although the drawing are not particularly detailed it looks as though they may be slightly different. Thanks

    Replacing calliper

Hi Guys,This may seem a silly question but is it correct that there is only one rubber slider pin cover ( probably the wrong terminology) and yet there are the two pins as per this Slider kit , thanks...

    Replacing calliper

Having now had a lot on ebay after your post Tony I see you are able to buy a "Slider kit"such as this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-LANDCRUISER-J120-2003-2009-REAR-BRAKE-CALIPER-SLIDER-PIN-KIT-BCF1418B/331568548369?hash=item4d33068a11:g:dPQAAOSwAhtZ4KA0:rk:10:pf:0 The reason I was...

Hi member, firstly happy new year to all. In the next few days I am needing to replace my rear offside brake caliper so obviously will need to bleed the brakes so can someone tell if I need to bleed just the one brake I have worked on or all four and if so what sequences should they be bled...

Getting the best from your hand brake

Having just replaced the pads all round on my LC4 I am now thinking maybe I should adjust the hand brake.I have read all of this thread and I don't really want to get involved in a total strip down as has been described unless I really need to.In fact I don't at this stage even know if it needs...

    Plastic cover

Thanks Guys, I think I'm going to go down the washing up bowl route as suggested by Tony, its only a bit of plastic after all and as he suggests screwing it in place is more secure than the clips that come with the original design.Im guessing that the original came off due to the clips not being...

    Plastic cover

Thanks Tony, The reason I was trying to avoid the main dealer was that when I ask about the part yesterday they quoted me £172 which I was not prepared to pay.I quite happy paying £21.57 or I might just make one as I'm sure we need a new washing up bowl.

    Plastic cover

Hi All. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to get the oval plastic cover that fits into the bash plate and covers the oil drain plug and also the gasket for the oil pickup without going to a main dealer. My plastic cover is missing and when I come to do the oil pickup clean I would like to...

    Icky oil pick up

Thats really interesting Alistair. The dealer did say its the same as the Hilux so clearly they do not know their job. Thanks for your reply I really appreciate it.

    Injector leaking

Hi again Tony,If its good with you I will start a chat under the "conversation" section on here and send you my number.Having done the pick inspection myself I quite like the idea of doing the removal and clean myself so and detail and pictures would be great, cheers Matthew

    Icky oil pick up

I have just been quote 8 hrs labour at £89.50 per hr to remove clean and re fit to oil pick-up by my local MrT they say it is virtually an engine out job,am I miss understanding something somewhere

    Injector leaking

This morning I have been to the dealership to ask them, one, to supply and fit the missing plastic bash plate and for that they have quoted me £172 plus labour plus vat. I secondly asked them to remove, clean and refit the oil pickup strainer and quoted me 8hrs labour at £89.50 so £716 plus vat...

    Injector leaking

Thank again Tony for all your help and advice and to other members.I will get onto the garage tomorrow about the strainer and hopefully get a successful outcome when they work on the car next week, regards Matthew

    Injector leaking

So is this suggesting there is/was a leak on one or more of the injector seals.I have already refitted the plug and put back the oil so cannot without draining the oil again check if there is any carbon deposits, incidentally there was no plate in place to cover the sump and the drain plug so...

    Injector leaking

Thanks Richard,I definitly dont have smoke coming from the exhaust and the car seem to run perfectly well.I think I will try gettint to see what the strainer looks like which hopefully will give a better indication if there is a problem.

    Injector leaking

Thanks again Tony.for all your help .I might have ago at doing the job myself from what you say it doesnt sound to difficult even for a complete novice. If I do I will post the photo and let you know what I find.
  32. M

    Injector leaking

So the leak the mechanic says he heard cannot exist as this would be an under pressure outward leak and there is no material evidence of such a leak so I think its time to ignore what the dealership has said and assume the car is a ok. Just to be doubly sure is it possible to check the oil...

    Injector leaking

Rob I am in Carmarthenshire half way between Carmarthen and Haverfordwest, and yourself?
  34. M

    Injector leaking

Thanks Rob,so the big issue/recall over the faulty copper seals is that not potentially similar to the issue that I am posted about? I thought leaking seals if that is what I have were very serious.I must say from what you have all said I am seriously doubting I have a leak.
  35. M

    Injector leaking

Tony,I have removed the cover as you suggested this morning and from what I can see there are no leaks whatsoever and there seems to be no evidence of any sort of leak in the past. Excuse my ignorance but if a seal is leaking can it leak both outwardly ie I would see fuel/oil coming out under...

    Injector leaking

Rob,the garage who did the change of seals was a general car repair and sales in Scotland I bought the car from and not the current local Toyota dealership. The seller did supply me with, what he said were the replaced seal which were copper,he did also say that the new ones he fitted were aluminium.
  37. M

    Injector leaking

Now Im really confused. If the mechanic was bullshitting then he was making a pretty good job of it and sounded very convincing. The garage has quote 1.8 hrs work rather than the 6hrs they quoted before which did seem odd as I imagined, as you guys have said that there is almost as much work...

    Injector leaking

This morning I went to the dealership and after some initial objections by the front office staff I got speak with the mechanic who worked on my car and said there was a leak.He explained and showed me he could hear a leak from an injector seal which I had to agree could be heard. After quite a...

    Injector leaking

Thanks again guys.I clearly need to investing this further with the dealer. The chap at the main dealer just said "the mechanic found a leak while doing the service" I am going to take it up with him face to face tomorrow and see what I can find out.I have also found there is an Injector...
  40. M

    Injector leaking

Thanks for the input both. The garage cannot or will not tell me how they have found the leak they just say it became apparent during the service so not to helpful. The engine has done 93K miles so not many for a D4D engine really.Looks like they have me over a bit of a barrel.
  41. M

    Injector leaking

Thanks both,it seems like I am a bit behind the times when it comes to labour costs these days and I will take your advice MD about getting the oil strainer cleaned while they are working on the car. I did get the garage I bought the car from to replace the seals before I took ownership as I was...

    Injector leaking

Hi All, Sorry, been here for some time. Having just had my 2005 LC serviced and Timing belt change the garage ( Toyota main dealer) has informed me one of the Injector seals is leaking and have supplied me with a quote to do the work which seems horrendous to me so what are members thoughts...

    Front wiper arm

All done,as you said Rob the job was pretty straight forward and I managed to save all the clips, but what I did do was, as I popped off the spline holding nut covers I managed to pop one straight on to the top of the engine, one bounce and down into the depths never to be seen again without...

I appreciate the car end of the strut goes at the existing fixing position but did it come with dimensions for where to fit at the door end of the strut?
  45. M

    Front wiper arm

Rob did you find it difficult to fit? With a cursery look it looks like I might need to remove the bonnet plus the plastic cowl across the bottom of the screen to get to the mechanism.I am no mechanic but I fancy giving it a go myself, what can go wrong haha
  46. M

    Front wiper arm

I have managed to bend the arm slightly and I think it will now reach the bottom of the stroke before it hits the bonnet, just got to wait for it to rain, shouldn't be long being in Wales, to check the bend works.
