    Removing rear caliper

Starting the handbrake refurb and have got as far as removing the caliper. I’m only wanting to have a look under the rotor at the parts that might need replacing so I want to avoid taking the caliper apart. Can I remove the caliper by undoing the two 17mm bolts from the backing plate or do I...

    The dreaded handbrake

The handbrake on my dad's 80 has always been a bit weak and problematic but this time it seems to have become non-existent. I remember reading somewhere that it is a bit of a weak point on 80s. Is it a case of just keeping on top of it or is there aftermarkets kits or parts to beef it up a bit...

    Big thanks

Not sure if this is the right section but I wanted to say a BIG THANKS to @Trevor for his help and patience yesterday. Rather than chuck it at someone I wanted to learn how to work on the 80 for some basic items. As some of you might have seen, what was going to be a simple filters and oil...

    Sticky/stubborn elec windows

All electric windows really struggle to get up and down fully, particularly in cold weather for some reason. I've dumped the best part of a can of silicone spray into all the channels which has alleviated the worst of it but its far from sorted. The next step is to have the door cards off and...

    Trickle charger for my 80 - 12v or 24v?

I'm going to get a trickle charger for the 80 as it does sit for a good few weeks without use, however I don't know if I need a 12V or 24V charger. I've read on here that some 80s are 12v whilst the later models start on 24V then run at 12V. Its a 1998 so I'm assuming it has later start on 24v...

Up mount Etna in an 80

Thought some on here might enjoy these pictures I took when I helped map a bit of Mount Etna last week. My Dad has been studying Etna for 49 years and aways had Land Rovers to do the job until he bought this second hand Landcruiser 80 in 2007. For the last 11 years its been faithfully doing the...

    Roof bars

Hello, I'm looking to get some roof bars for the 80 and wondered what people are using? Not going to go for a whole roof rack as 95% of the time it would be unused and just boost fuel consumption... even though it does look alot cooler :) Cheers

    What power steering fluid?

I'm taking the truck on a run up to Scotland in a few weeks, it has a power steering pump leak (not huge) and wanted to have some extra fluid on board to top up on the journey if it requires. I was going to go with Toyota ATF Dextron 3.

    Big thanks to Trevor

Just wanted to say thanks to Trevor for all his help and work rebuilding the front axle of my 80s Landcruiser. What was a straight rebuild turned into a bit more as on initial inspection it was apparent that there were some random parts 'finangled' in there. I picked up the truck Friday evening...

    Leaking front diff...I think

Hello, Can anyone recommend a reputable 4x4 specialist in Hertfordshire who could rebuilt the front axle on an 80s Landcrusier? The front nearside wheel is covered in grease, inner and outer, and having taken it to the local garage they think the front axle and diff will need to be rebuilt...
