I've got a vibration in my Prado that I have been unable to resolve.
On hills it would start to vibrate a lot. But it never made any seriously bad thumping sounds. It just had a shudder that then went away.
I've done the flex plate. I've done the engine mounts. I've done the transmission...
Yeah. We have the 5VZFE. Does the same thing. Will suck all the coolant out of the bottle but when it cools down goes back to one of the level lines again. I always look now down around the injectors to make sure nothing is dripping from that hose that goes in to the throttle body and I always...
Not sure if this helps but I have a 1998 Prado 5VZFE. Did the radiator about 2 months ago as part of going after another problem. It was the bypass tube between the heads that was leaking down the back and on to the transmission. I could see this by shining a torch up from underneath to the back...
Just wondering if anyone has ever done an ECU upgrade on an older Prado to get the ODBII functionality?
I have an older model and it just has the plug on the side of the motor and no ODBII.
Would the loom need any significant changes for a slightly later model ECU ?
Following up on this. What I did in the end was to engine enamel the entire tube and to drill a hole in the plate it is joined to just big enough to get a camera scope through so I can least peer in between the heads to see what is going on between them. That way I can check the whole tube now...
I've just done a whole lot of things to our older Prado to eliminate vibration and general clanking. It had the classic shudder going up hills. When I checked each prop shaft while on the car I couldn't really tell if they were bad or not. They didn't seem to wiggle. But when I took them off...
Thanks guys. That is really helpful. When I ordered it I went off the parts diagram at Megazip.

And I can see now I had a 50/50...
Hi guys. Bit of a mystery today.
Just doing the ATF and the strainer in my 90 series Prado auto.
New strainer turned up in the post.
Now I am sure somebody knows right away what I am about to say.
On the engine plate for the Prado it clearly says A343F.
On consulting the dreaded terrible...
Yeah these were not the factory paint spots. The replacement one I have has those. These are like little twink marks. Literally over the leaks. Perhaps it could be something they put in the coolant that came through. Like stop leak. I had to clean the ports out of the block because some of them...
Agree. That is the path of least resistance. We don't know if this tube has ever been replaced before. My guess is that at some service interval when it should have been replaced they just put white dots all over it in the places where it is leaking! So it could have been in here for the full...
This one has about 380'000 on it and the sign for me that something was up was that the tube has white marks painted on it by a previous mechanic. And at some of those points it is now indeed leaking. Like they -knew- this was a common problem.
It may also be that they fixed / improved the...
Yup always use the red stuff. Not sure if previous owners did. While we have had it has never seen the temp climb past half way. Though the temp gauge only seems to have two states. Cold and half way!
Thankfully previous owners didn't use green but I think they put tap water in it. This...
Hey guys! Will have pictures tomorrow but in the meantime I found a nice parts diagram on the megazip that makes it even clearer.

Hi guys I am looking for some ideas/wisdom.
Awhile ago I rebuilt my 5VZFE. Did the heads. Rear seals all of it. Goes great. Did the knock sensors. But it did seem to eat more coolant than is normal. Went in to it today. Turns out I missed the deal with the darn rusting top tube.
I should...
