I decided to try Bilthammer on the troopy as its lanolin based but much thinner than Corolan wax that i used on the 76 and dries clear. Also its around £50 for 5 litres.
That was Sept and its still doing well, touched up a couple of exposed parts but id taken the car on an offroad trip which...
Morning folks,
Still for sale and dropped the price to £36k for everything or around £33k without the tent.
Its a strange one, its pretty rare over here in the UK, i get plenty of watchers and views in ebay and the car always attracts folk at the local car gatherings ( Bacon & Brakes) , but no...
Thanks
I believe the HZJ78 is still available new, Toyota Gibraltar stockholdings still have it listed but I'm not sure which market they are / were available from.
I did as well but gave up trying to find the unicorn Lhd will be fine for trips to Europe and was ok when I had a test drive.
Good luck with the search
Hi Sean,
I've actually already bought it from Travis at RHAS, brand new very last of the V8s unfortunately. Just waiting on registration before I can bring it home.
We tried the Australian route but they need to be 10 years old plus to register here and they are extremely expensive unless...
Hi folks,
After 6 years , I've decided to sell my 76 series for a troopy.
It's a RHD petrol with the V6 1GR-FE engine. Sourced and imported from Japan to the UK in 2018 with the help of an agent with 4700 miles on the clock. Now approaching 49k.
It's gets serviced every 6 months and have all...
Nice, yeah I was aware of the Alu-Cab version for the 76 but havent seen Alu-innovations before.
The motivation to do it to the 76 isn't there really, five years of ownership it's probably a new project, new challenge I'm looking for.
Cheers for that, one of the reasons for the troopy is that I think its more suitable for fitting an Alucab roof conversion to get away from the rooftop tent and annexe setup plus they have more loading space. It would be an GXL troopy I'm after with the extra row of seats in the back although...
Hi all,
Ive been contemplating a change from the 76 series to a V8 troopy for sometime now but haven't done much about seeing it through for various reasons. One is I don't really know what sort of value to put on the 76 as it has quite a few mods and it's been a proper labour of love over the...
Hi Jules
Yeah I bought and fitted the Kaymar rear bar last year so I know it's rated for 3500kgs.
In the UK, they state that if the vehicle has no plate then you shouldn't tow with it but if I can update the registration document to show the weight limits then I should be covered. The cops...
Cheers Sarah,
Did you update your V5 retrospectively with the towing weights and did you need to provide any proof etc or did you do all this while registering the cruiser?
The good news with the parts is that Toyota UK wouldn't supply me and Toyota DBX had nothing in stock so I ordered from...
Hi folks,
I've owned my 2015 JDM import 76 series for over four years now and just waiting on delivery of the Toyota chassis and towbar harnesses so I can finally use the square hitch built into my Kaymar rear bar. Trouble is that JDM cars don't have load rating plates on them and I'm seeing...
Yeah definitely and 70s sure like to rust so mine gets alot of tlc.
I don't think mine was much different from those in the videos, bit fresher probably as mine only had 4k on the clock with its first 3 years in Japan.
Certainly seen some rotten cars in the states if they are in the rust belt...
Hi folks,
Just thought I'd provide my experience with lanoguard.
I have been using the spray on lanoguard for almost two years now and spraying the underside every 6 months October and March when I service the cruiser. I normally use the Moto spray but I've used chassis guard with glass...
Thanks Raj,
Yeah, certainly helps in this country. I found that caked on mud just encouraged rust. Best to spray all the chassis legs, inside quarter panels and doors, wings. I know 70s like a spot of rust so I'm trying to keep it looking as best as I can.
Cheers
Mike
Ive used lanoguard on my 2015 76 for a couple of years now after the Dinitrol started peeling off the chassis in places.
I use the normal Moto spray to cover bolts and brackets around the engine bay and use the chassis guard with glass from buzzweld everywhere else. I also use the grease to...
I used this as my guide.

150kg will be dynamic and probably double that static but i cant find the webpage where i found the information. I usually like to find a few places saying the same thing before i trust...
I know the feeling, could be a while before im back in Aberdeen as we are all working from home for the foreseeable. Saves abit of petrol haha.
Yeah the cruiser is a 1grfe 4.0ltre V6 petrol. Tax is £260 a year which is the standard import car tax band. Not sure about emissions, i dont know if...
I put 40k on a 60 plate on one of the cheapest Auris hybrids I could find and over the 18 months it was completely reliable, only swapped it a couple of months ago for the wife to get a new Corolla and I now have her old lexus CT. Again completely bomb proof car.
Understand the appeal of the...
No worries, good luck in the search.
The guy in Southampton picked the car up from the port and took care of the IVA, MOT and registration. Unfortunately for me the IVA test took a few weeks because alot of the testers had walked out over some sort of dispute.
I live in Blairgowrie but work in...
Cheers,
It's difficult to price really as it all depends on the auction price in Japan and the exchange rate. Expect to pay 10% import duty then 20% vat to release the car from the port. I was around £800 for testing , conversion and registration and the agents fees were around 2k. I can't...
Hi,
It was a very well setup process and all went smoothly. Paul explains the whole process and gives you access to 4wheelers auction site so you can search for your potential new car. Sam, originally from the UK visits the auction, sends lots of pics of the car, calls you from Japan before the...
Hi,
Give Paul a shout at japautoagent. I used him and his contacts to bring my 2015 76 series into the country and can't recommend them highly enough.
Worst bit is waiting for it to arrive haha.
Cheers
Mike
Search for Roothy on YouTube regarding the sheep Juice protection as I call it lol. He uses lanotec on his 40's.
I can only describe lanoguard as like having a carnuba wax coating on underneath, the water beading including muddy water is unreal.
I'm using lanoguard to keep on top of mine. I originally had someone dinitrol the cruiser as it was a fresh import but loads of bits try to corrode. I was topping it up with wax oil but now I spray everything with the lanoguard, props, leaf springs , any exposed bolt or threads and over the top...
Cheers,
Platinum NGK upgrade plugs are PLFR6A-11
My gaps were around 0.045" thou and larger.
My feeler gauges are imperial lol ( 0.039 - 0.043) plug gap tolerance.
Yeah, well ill be servicing the cruiser next month and probably going to replace them all with NGK platinums. I was only curious to see how the gaps were doing after 22k and not good lol. Plus I wanted to check plug tightness as I have a ticking noise that appears under load sometimes when...
Why do Toyota fit odd plugs to the V6 engine?
Denso on the right and NJK on the left which i find very strange.
I'd read some posts in America that its normal with forerunners etc but something i've never come across before.
Kinda just discovered these troop carriers on steroids lol. Are these made by Toyota or are they custom built? Love to know more about them as I bet they would make a great camper.
Cool, yeah I had a toll collection thingy attached to the windscreen and centre console as well. Disconnected and removed it completely. Used to speak to you in Japanese everything the ignition come on.
Yeah I was the same, my cruiser only used three of them and I still don't know what the small plug was for. Everything is in the two larger plugs including the aerial control allowing the dash buttons to work as normal.
I bought a pumpkin auto android 8.0 unit on Amazon. It's abit narrower than...
