Engine rebuild update and warning to others regarding second hand parts

Following a lengthy rebuild my Collie is back on the road and all is swimmingly well... or so I thought. The first 500 mile run in went well and she's been in for a new oil and filter change, no issues there until the garage rang to say 'we can't get the oil stick back in the tube'! After a lot...

    Engine rebuild advice needed

Bit of a long story but I'll cut to the chase. My 1KZ-TE cylinder head is cracked in three places and has couple damaged pistons. Had the engine removed and obtained recon engine for replacement however the replacement engine was out of a 4Runner and whilst similar does have some differences...

    Toyota Engine codes and models

Afternoon all, my Collie is still in the shop after nearly 4 months and I'm at a loss with options. I have a 1KZ-TE (Eng No. 1KZ-0703066) and obtained a reconditioned unit (Eng No. 1KZ-0152708) which at first appeared ok. However, the dipstick aperture is on the left instead of the right so I...

    1KZTE dip stick location

So my local garage finally got receipt of the recon engine I ordered (using my vehicle reg.) for my 99 1KZTE Collie and all the ancillary parts fit except for the dipstick tube which is on the opposite side. Is anyone able to shed any light on this? TIA

    1KZ-TE repair or replace?

Well, unfortunately I've blown a head gasket on the old girl and I suppose at 231k miles its not bad. There is also some damage to the pistons looks like a ball bearing been dropped in! Question is do I get it repaired or replaced? Been off the road over a month now and getting frustrated so...

Excess Engine Oil and PCV valve

Had a new radiator installed by my local garage and while there had them replace the engine oil and filter. When I checked the oil it looked a little above the 'full' line on the dipstick but didn't think anymore about it. Next few times I've returned from a drive I notice a little stain where...

Oil consumption on 1KZ-TE with 230k miles

Just back from week in Cornwall. Girl didn't miss a beat going up and down the hills temperature always stayed constant and never struggled. Only thing I noticed was that I'm using a bit of oil, around 250ml for each 1000 miles. Is this normal or relative to the age and mileage of the engine?

    AC service port

Little bit confused but sure someone on here has the answer. My Collie appears to only have one service port on the AC system. The service book I have says the port is for degas AND regas, protective cap has a H stamped on it and has the larger fitting and I can't find a port on the low pressure...

    Auto box 5th gear selection

My auto box Collie has always driven perfect but has a strange anomaly. 5th gear will not select until the water temperature has risen to 'normal' on the gauge. Knowing the cooling system is shared with the auto box I've had the cooling system flushed and the auto box oil and filter changed as a...

Anyone know the difference? 90 FX Colorado series

Checking up on how many 90 series Collies are left in the UK and found this site. Not necessarily 100% accurate and references two types of FX model (FX and FX A). Both are showing as Diesel, just wondered anyone know if the FX A is the automatic and the FX manual? How Many Left? - [Leaving...

Just had a light gold 90 series pull up next to me near Peterborough to let me know one of my brake lights not working. Had roof rack with awing and front bars. Managed a 20 second traffic light chat and went different ways. Nice to see other Cruisers on the road.

Rear door warp - seal misalignment

I noticed on my Collie that the top of the rear door does not meet the body and subsequently the rubbers don't seal properly.
