Hi,
My LC started over heating today. Not quite getting in to the red on the gauge but almost. I assume it's the thermostat so will try this first. But I noticed the excess water is not going into the overflow pipe. Are the water pumps known to go on these?
Any help with be useful thanks.
Ha! I have this LC now and am trying to work out how to connect the pre-heater timer as without it the alternator won't charge and there are no dash lights.
Hi.
I don't have any dashboard lights working. Never had. And the alternator won't charge. The previous owner connected a manual glow plug switch. Must have bypassed the pre heat timer. Looks like the heater timer controls much more than just the glow plugs. The alternator won't charge either...
Thanks for the advice. I will have a look at the exhaust clearance as hadn't thought about that. I don't use it everyday so mpg isn't a concern.
... I have spent the last few months cutting out the rust and welding in new metal so I looking forward to doing more of the fun stuff like tyres...
Hi Graeme,
Thanks for the advice on the brakes. Will try a full brake bleed. Definitely feels like something is not right so will check the rubber pipes too. Never knew they could collapse inside.
I have refitted the brake with the new pistons. The brakes are just as bad. Dangerously in effective. Any ideas on what it might be? I think next I still try to bleed the whole brake system
I managed to twist the cylinder out with Moll grips. Very corroded. Ordered a repair kit which includes all 4 cylinders. Coming from Lithuania. Hopefully fits
Is it possible to change LJ70 solid 12.5mm front discs to vented 20mm? I ask because I am finding it difficult to find a replacement for a broken solid disc caliper for my 89 LJ. Whereas 1990 calipers are readily available (cheaper).
Cheers
I have seized piston in front left caliper. Another is cracked from the heat of uneven braking. The truck was manufactured in 1989 do had the thinner solid discs. Any ideas on where to purchase?
I have done a basic brake servo/ vacuum test. Where you pump the brakes engine off. Then start the engine and the pedal sinks towards the floor. This seems ok. But it's not holding vacuum long. I am trying to work out where the vacuum pipe to the servo goes to. The alternator has a vacuum pump...
I just took my LJ out for the first time in weeks as been replacing the rusty rear wheel arch. The brakes are bad. Even when I press hard. Any way I will measure the pistons and get a repair kit.
Hi. Are the brakes on the LJ70 known to be a bit rubbish? I have checked the discs and pads and the piston movement and all good. Could it be the servo? Cheers
The 'Engine' fuse keeps blowing. Really annoying as supposed to Be going to Salisbury Plains tomorrow.
So the'engine' fuse blows when you turn the key. However the engine will crank/ starter motor turns over. But obviously the glow plugs etc can't heat up.
Does anyone know a common short...
Actually the guy who refurbished it said it had an internal regulator in the alternator. It must be poor connection from the ignition to the 'exciter' connection on the alternator. The wiring had been messed about with on the car so need to check the continuity on everything.
Hi,
Spent quite a bit of time removing a pointless supercharger from my LJ70 and replacing it with a stock CT20. She runs much better now and no annoying whine from the SC. I would like to refit a turbo switch but not sure of the part number or how/ where to fit it. Any photos anyone?
Cheers...
Hi,
I have a refurbished and tested alternator fitted to my LJ70. It will give 14v on the bench (according the auto electric guy) but nothing in the LC. Also the battery light does not come on when the ignition key is turned. Battery voltage gauge works. I have checked the battery LED on the...
This LC is becoming a lot more work than I thought when I bought it!!!
So far I have had the alternator rebuilt and am putting the engine back to stock by putting the CT20 back on... However I just realized I have the later 2LT-2 Engine. I believe they are better with the cast iron head and...
Hi,
There is a whine from the gearbox. It gets better the more I drive. I am hoping it is just low on oil and driving it kicks up the oil and quietens it down? Planning to change the gearbox oil over weekend.
Gearbox works perfectly apart from the whine

Hi,
The sunroof is jammed shut. The roof lining/ carpet was soaking inside so I thought I would remove the roof lining check the drainage pipes were still connected. Drainage pipes were connected ok. I assume they are blocked hence water is over flowing into the car. I will unblock from the...
It's me again!
The battery isn't charging. I am going to check the alternator with a multi- meter at the weekend. I assume it's the culprit.
But thought I would ask if there is any know causes/ issues? For example corroded earthing, wires being worn through etc.
Cheers

Hi,
Tried to take my LJ for an MOT retest today and it won't start. Battery fully charged so turns over fine. Won't even try to go. Anything that's a common fault i should check?
It has been used a couple days ago and started fine. It is quite a lot of white smoke on start up so could it be...
I just checked in the manual and there isn't one .
The horn doesn't work. Checked the fuse, horn connections, I guess next is the steering wheel switch. Unless there is a known fault?
Thanks qbartx I will investigate the wiper spindles.
About the engine stuff I literally only picked up the LJ70 up today and drove it straight to the MOT test garage. I only have a basic understanding of turbo and superchargers/ waste gates hence why I need help from a specialist. In the...
It failed the MOT. But only on a wheel front wheel bearing, windscreen washer and horn so could have been a lot worse so worth the gamble.
Will still adjust the steering box as it sounds quite easy.
Another question.: The previous owner has replaced the turbo with a supercharger. It runs ok...
Thanks iwan-t24! Is that adjustment possible without a ramp?
About the engine not turning off with lights on. The previous owner has told me it was rewired recently so probably a connection mistake.
Another thing I noticed was very slow windscreen wipers. I am assuming a new motor is...
Hi Everyone,
The LJ70 had been sorn for a few years so needed an MOT.
Took it to the MOT garage today. I am expecting a long read when it's finished! One thing I noticed driving it was the steering had quite a lot of play. I am assuming it's the steering box. Do you guys know a good place to...
