Why is my coolant leaking/evaporating? (photos)

Agree, as a veteran mechanic, i've finally only recently come back to the OEM constant tension style clamps. Can't beat 'em

    Conversion to led headlight

    105 turbo diesel

In Oz they only came out with an n/a 1HZ Maybe not so much of a problem in cooler climates. In the north-west here though, with summer temperatures often well above 43 degrees C, if towing an even small trailer, they're just downright gutless, anemic and struggle to do 80 km/hr. I had one 25...

    EGR vacuum hose

Prolly not... the brown VSV valve connected to that hose has only one connection, so it has no vacuum source to swirch on. it's probably a venting valve... but it may stop it from working if the hose has a hole in it, maybe where that rub mark is, or some other issue with that brown vsv. for...

LC 100 TD VX 2001 suddenly gutless!

It's called a DTC connector, if you look it up it's very similar in an evolutionary kind of way to OBD and somewhat backwards compatible in as much as it can be plugged into... "Why" is because in some markets OBD2 was mandated years before in other markets, such in the US it was 2000-ish, yet...

LC 100 TD VX 2001 suddenly gutless!

As i've mentioned before, until i owned my diagnostic tool, it was impossible to know what the ECU is "thinking". When i had my last fault, it drove like i had a throttle position switch error (check engine light came on when backing off to a coast). The original thought of a diagnosis i had was...

LC 100 TD VX 2001 suddenly gutless!

The only way i was able to find this reader was through a contact i learned of by stumbling across a fella named MIchael Wallin, who's website is : http://1hdfte.com.au/ To get his attention, i rejoined fakebook after being off fakebook for several years... If you're on fakebook look up...

LC 100 TD VX 2001 suddenly gutless!

yes, 1HD-FTE runs M-OBD comms protocol. I bought a code reader, which also display all engine ecm data live with the engine running. took me three years to actually find one. And as a 35 year diesel mechanic veteran, this finally shone the light on a check engine light i'd lived with for three...

LC 100 TD VX 2001 suddenly gutless!

You don't mention how many miles / kilometres it's done (?) From what i've seen of others with this problem, the blocking up of the intake with egr / oil gunk is definitely in the ballpark of your symptoms. Having watched the live data on my scanner, the egr is even turned on at idle. Given how...

    Sway bar extended drop links/brackets

I don't do powder coating on anything... my issue being, one small chip and the water gets in down behind, and the whole rust cycle thing begins again. i use one particular brand of polyurathane paint that's i've used for years, that proved it's durability, even when painted over imperfect prep.

No movement in 2wd only grinding noise but movement in 4wd 2019 76 series

They are known to break rear axles, i've fixed them before. The last one- three years ago, was a low kilometre, late model VDJ v-8 dual cab. don't be too tempted to drive it, even to a repair centre, because if it is an axle, the flailing axle that is still being driven, will destroy the end of...

Technical Service question - on diff oils for my Troopy

As a diesel mechanic, servicing this i would put it LS90 GL5 in both F & R, LS = limited slip, which won't hurt a non-LSD and would be the right oil if it were an LSD that negates the potential possibility of chatter. The GL5 part means it's a high pressure gear oil, that resists being squeezed...

    Instrument cluster check lights

I'm interested to know if your alternator light works, because in my 79, even after i replaced the globe it still didn't work, and it turns out that the diode in that circuit is the reason why the alternator has delayed start to charge, because the globe in combination with the diode is what...

    Sender Unit? Gauge? OR??

Have replaced LC senders before myself.... Same float and arm operates against both the variable resistor, and is also a switch contact that is is separate. The commonality is that the arm is ground. The wound wire part that is the variable resistor just plumb gets worn through.

    Sway bar extended drop links/brackets

Yep, i get it about budgetary constraints. The reason i won't use offset bushes is because the additional stiffness stifles left to right articulation in roll, as the engineering of arm pick-up points has it that they are nearly always binding in any state other that flat level, and...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

As Iwan suggested, behind the rear engine hook bracket. The fellow who builds FTE looms says it would cause a throttle position switch error, which is exactly how it behaved... I'm going to leave the wire off until my new handheld scanner gets here this week to see what the error code it has...

Who is doing what maintenance today?

When i bought my ute, i noticed it had an important looking wire off in the engine bay... it's taken three years, and consultation with electrical engineer FTE Mick, to finally discover where it's supposed to go... Soon, maybe i'll be able to put my "check engine" bulb back in

    1hz idles after shut off

need to check first that there's no voltage AT ALL being supplied to the solenoid @ ignition shutoff... that will isolate the problem to being either an electrical backfeed issue, or a pump issue.

    Sway bar extended drop links/brackets

I have a 2" lift on my HDJ79, which are the same radius arms, etc as an 80... initially i believed the lift kit supplier, that said sway bar bush mount extensions were necessary... what i found was, the sway bar then contacted the radius rods here: And the more the rebound increased- ie: in...
