    Speaking of Foxwings...

I discovered THESE recently. I've been looking for something like this when we go camping on the beach with just the swag. I have a large sandmat for the camper trailer and its been awesome - beach sand just falls through it reducing the amount of sand that ends up in the tent. Last time I took...

    Bilstein shockies

I finally decided to treat myself to a set of new shocks because the current Ironman units are well and truly shagged - it feels like I'm driving one of those metronomes that my sister used for piano practice. I've gone for the Bilstein units which are much raved about around here. I considered...

    Our Big Trip Around Australia

This is what makes all the planning & work of the last few years worthwhile. The tide should be back around the same time as the fire is ready to put on the camp oven for our beef stew (which we have nailed now :) ). My biggest stress today was wondering where we should put the bush toilet for...

Roughtrax Steering Rack & Lower Ball Joints

Before we left the UK I swapped my steering rack with a Roughtrax recon unit. The first recon unit would turn right with no effort at all but was really heavy to the left. No amount of wheel alignment could fix it. Eventually they offered to recon my original rack for me. This was much better...

    Upgraded Head Light Loom

I fitted one of the kits from the US that a few other members have also fitted. They started acting up a bit - they have been looking a bit dull for a while, and sometimes the main beam would work but I had no dipped beam. The first time it happened they fixed themselves, but then it happened...

    Chainsaw

With bags of firewood running $15-20 over here, I decided to look into getting a chainsaw as there are plenty of fallen trees lying around. It very quickly became apparent that you buy Husky or Stihl if you want it to last. At the husky store the chap had a very nice 16" saw for $250, and right...

    First Shakedown Trip

We have been in Australia for about 2 weeks now, and the longer we are here the more we are sure that it was the right move to make. Tomorrow we are taking the camper out for our first shakedown trip before our big lap around Australia - we are going to GORDON COUNTRY for 4 days with my...

FREE - Waste Hog (water carrier)

I have a 45L (I think) waste hog like THIS that has only ever been used to move water around (I used to have lots of fish tanks in the house). I hung onto it because I thought it would also be handy for trips, but my trailer has a built in water tank now. This is free to anyone that wants to...

Seasoning a potjie / camp oven / cast iron pot or skillet

A couple of years ago I bought a brand new POTJIE and tried seasoning it the old school way, by cooking pig fat in it for several hours. Old vs new

I was visiting a mate the other night when his 24 year old son walked in. After saying g'day etc, I asked him if I could borrow a newspaper. 'This is the 21st century, ya old fart,' my mate's son said smiling. 'We don't waste money on newspapers. Here, you can borrow my iPad.' I can tell...

    Vague Steering

The steering on my Colorado has become increasingly vague. I have changed the fluid, fitted poly bushes and changed the rod ends. I haven't change the tie rod inners yet. I also know there is a very small leak at the steering column seal, but this doesn't even drip on the ground. The vague...

    Engine Breathers

I've been modifying my engine breather, which got me thinking... why does it have a breather? Where is the extra pressure coming from? Just everything getting hot inside the engine? Oil Catch Tank

When I fitted the Econokit, I had to disconnect the breather from the air inlet - it connected just before the turbo, where we fitted the diffuser.
