If your battery is discharging quickly so then you should change the battery and charge it. Usually batteries not working if we do not use since long time and on recharging batteries will work great.Might be you battery fine.

Good to hear that you have fixed the issue. Leakage of current is the main cause for these types of issues. Always tape all the wires and make sure you have never damaged any wire during installation.
