100 series auto or manual

It's a "very rare manuel" by all accounts.

In all seriousness, with 4x4s, I would hate to have a manual, especially if any off-roading was planned. I'd rather concentrate on angles, approaches, obstacles, etc. than clutch and gears.

Plus, on the one you linked to, the NSR arch (door shut area) looks decidedly dodgy.

The MOT history isn't brilliant either.. Hes got it on Auto Trader for £8000 (good luck with that).. No off-roading planned, I know what you mean regarding 4x4 and manuals, Cheers anyways mate.

Higgy have you seen the 100 for sale 54 thou on clock 29 thousand quids at hollytree garage good luck with you purchase

Having driven both I wouldn't give the manual time of day. Good on the open road where you stay in 5th mile after mile but ( as I found out) stop start traffic in Birmingham city centre the novelty of the pedal/stick arrangement soon wears thin. The only advantage is that they are a little more economical but if thats a criteria when choosing a 100 you should be looking elsewhere.

GX model, farmers special no AHC though.

Good point, I was stuck in traffic on the M2 on Sunday in the missus Skoda Fabia and my left ankle was killing after a bit.... Good point for Auto

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-MIT...LE-CAB-NO-VAT-AUTO-TRUCKMAN-BACK/323469931072 I just happen to look at this the other day, just up the road from me.. And what a cracking motor, its got more GTW than a 120 5750kg.. Iv no interest in buying it. But its an option if all else fails.. I know the forum will tear it to shreds like Lions. but it was very well looked after, never been near a builder or a Farmer. R E A D Y!!! ...........KILL!

Auto all the way for me H (in my 80). More torque than a manual, no clutch to change, and as said no faffing about with sticks and clutch off road plus more control and no way you can stall it.
Chris reckons they’re bomb proof (and his exploits prove this) unless drowned (sorry Chas) and, well I do love my auto box. :)

Well my 120 listing has just ended on ebay, about 700 views and not one sniff of interest. Its been on sorn, im gonna tax it again tomorrow . and start using it again.. so plans change again... But agree . the auto box in my collie was sublime. and the 120s not bad.... for me driving a manual now is annoying we got a skoda and a vw polo.. They annoy me Don't know why

Don't tax it tomorrow, wait till Thurs you could save money.
I'm surprised it didn't sell, it seemed priced right.
Auto box in the V6 very smooth but not a patch on the 5 spd.

You should have had a Smart car with a fault. Then you’d know about grief! You were looky!

I know what you mean about falling out of love with (ok hating) the thing! I was doing ok with the Smart until the novelty wore off and it still wasn’t entirely fixed. Thing is, it’s growing on me again now it’s (mostly) fixed and has a purpose (toad).

Funny you should mention that. I was cursing my luck this morning when I took a manual A4 down to Coventry only to pick up a manual Infiniti in central Brum to take me back up. Why anyone would buy a non-performance car with a gear stick baffles me.

Have you driven one? The engine is over-stressed , noisey , and is a car engine in a big heavy 4x4 .
Pay 3 times that amount and get the V8 diesel , they at least have a reasonable engine , ok the front diff is made of chocolate , half the electrics won't work but it will be a very comfortable place to sit while you wait for recovery by the side of the road .
It is a shame Toyota don't employ an ex R Rover interior designer .....

Do not and i mean DO NOT encourage Vicky Beckham to visit Toyota City

Yep I'll go with all those points plus also the auto box is very suspect. Only buy one of the box has been overhauled( TD6 that is). I looked into buying a 3.6 and took it to a RR specialist for a pre purchase check. Came back with a page and half of faults £5k to put right ( before looking at the rear diff). For the same money I bought the 120.

Hi Higgy, I recently bought a HZJ100 which is my first auto 4x4 after having many manuals. Its taking a little time to get used to it but I am becoming very happy with it...especially when driving in traffic. I have only taken off-road once so far & it went well.

I remember being out in the central Australian sand dunes some years ago in my manual 80 series & the only vehicles that where making it up the largest dunes on the day where autos...as soon as a manual needed another gear, they would bog down in the soft sand & stop...even with low tyre pressures.

Good luck with the search, it took me a long time over here to find a good one at a sensible $$ but it was worth the wait.

Cheers WC57
