105 FZE - replace thermostat

Hi all, trying to replace my stuck open thermostat on 105 FZ 6 cyl petrol -BUT - the bottom thermostat housing bolt is really difficult to reach as access restricted by the aircon compressor. Have tried several bendy-type sockets but no success - might have even started to strip the bottom nut. Anyone have any ideas or done this before? Thanks Philby (Melbourne, Australia)
