Hi I need some advise, we replaced the rear brake pads and discs of my 2006 Landcruiser at the weekend, unfortanatly the drivers side rear disc was solid onto the rear axle and when we eventually removed to it took the rear hand brake off too. we have tried to put it back on but there is no room to assembly the brake back on. How do we do this or have we got to take the full braking system off the rear axle.?

The brakes as you discovered are a combi style, brake pads for the foot brake and brake shoes for the hand brake.

at the 6.00 oclock position there is a ratchet adjuster, you need to rotate the disk so the hole is at the 6.00 position and with a screw driver adjust the ratchet to retract or expand the shoes.

However if you have forced the disk off you have probably bent or broken some of the handbrake mechanism and this will need inspected before u reassemble it.

When re assembling retract the brake shoes and then slide the disk over. Then with the screwdriver adjust the ratchet to the correct gap.

then reassemble the foot brake pads and caliper

its a bit of a knack, but ok once you know how
