Hi everyone,
Recently had white smoke when I start and later on while ramping up...
Didn't think it coming from the turbo until it was too late... Heard piston knocking had to stop and check the engine.
Diagnostic show no warning, oil level was low, car has 262,000 km

Before pictures I now in process of taking all air system apart for cleaning - including intercooler etc...

Phase one - turbocharger
Garrett GT23V vnt Toyota #17201-17070B
Some of the pictures are difficult to watch... J
I am still searching for CHRA for my turbo so I welcome any suggestions / help / support etc..
Was thinking to upgrade my turbo by fitting the CT26 (aftermarket) or try to fit GT25V to GT23V housing but I am still struggling to find the source of failure so changing components right now is not recommended.

Will be happy to hear from someone that already experienced turbo failure and turbo upgrades - can really help me at this moment ...

Now for pics.. I am not en expert and first time open a turbo but except the oil couldn't find problem in measures

Any ideas or guideline will be appreciated ...

Shaft seal gone? Luckily mostly on the exhaust side so no runaway?

I don't really know if there's an Oring on that shaft but it's look like something missing
The lower ring on the shaft is metal ring
Shaft diameter is 7.88mm and bearing diameter is 7.89mm so I assume that 0.01 means no wearing

It should come apart right at that matting surface. Spray some WD-40 down there and give it couple taps with a hammer outward on those stud brackets. Can also use a small screwdriver and gently pry it apart. But do be careful as those matting surfaces are on the thinner side.
