Hi Guys
I recentley picked up a 2001 V8 to go with my 1988 hj60 :)
I went out yesterday in the snow and managed to get properley wedged up ,I was following a couple of guys who got stuck ,after lots of digging they got through but left lots of solid snow about 3 feet high..
Anyhow , the cruiser being 3 feet longer a a foot wider got stuck...solid !
The guys tried dragging me out but basically while this was going on the front diff went , a tractor then had to be summoned to get me out.
Can anyone help with where I can sort parts and advice on how to sort the front diff ?
Hindsight being a great thing, I should have gone and got the 60 from my mates and gone on the adventure .

If you have stripped the teeth then clearly a new ring and pinion is needed. You can get one for a main dealer of course, or through Amayama or try Just Diffs in the US. https://www.justdifferentials.com/

It might be worth contacting Jon Wildsmith on here as the undisputed king of 100 series diffs. You never know, he might just have a box in the garage with a set in. Long shot but worth a try. Neither Roughtrax nor Milner are showing them. I'd do a parts comparison on Toyo and see what other vehicles used that part. It might be something crazy like a Hilux rear diff set is the same which makes getting one a bit easier.

Thanks Chris :)
It feels abit lonley when Inchape tell you they've never seen a V8 cruiser

Thanks Gav , I've just spoken to Gary.
In the mean time ,how do I contact Jon Wildsmith ?
I'm not brilliant at finding my way around on computers ....

Clive, he gets it. We've been talking.

And after only an hour and a half, managed to get an avatar up and running! We're getting there. Now all we need is a diff.

Morning chaps :)
As I've been told the diff on mine which was made in 2000 is not the strongest .
Can someone please tell me what year do the stronger versions that will fit go up too , as obviosley thats what I'll be looking for .

Found in other threads:
4 pinion front diff from August 1999 production.
For UZJ (V8) from frame # 5003980
For HDJ from frame # 8011850

And that's:
4.3 ratio for UZJ, p/n 41110-60821 (41110-60820 before Aug 1999 prod (2-pinion))
4.1 ratio for HDJ w 4-sp-auto, p/n 41110-60801
3.909 ratio for HDJ w manual, p/n 41110-60811

The UZJ with 5-sp auto came with 4.1 ratio diffs. That would be from August 2002 production.

Seems a bit strange that a 2001 was produced before August 1999. How does it match the VIN/chassis-number?

PS:
Production month is key when looking for parts. Putting model/version/market/prod.month into you signature line ensures that you get the right responses here, and makes it more likely that someone will bother to answer, as the variations and combinations of parts are numerous over the years.

Edit: See attached TSB

If Gary is breaking a few 100's I wonder if he can help with me with a new front seat. How do I contact him? What is his username on here?

Evening all
This is giving me a headache....apperentley no one in this country can find kits or stock of this front diff.
I've been to a diff specialist in nottingham today who looked at the diff and said " Jesus thats completely foooked mate ,nothing we can do.
All contacts have come up with nothing and I'm even looking at gear cutting companies ..
I'm almost starting to wish I hadn't bought the motor as appentley the vehicle is so rare that even toyota say they have no idea what to do....
Please someone must know something else than putting my cash into a second hand unit that has no cover and could go at any time ??!!

Can Toyota not source you one?

Have you stripped the diff? what part has failed?

With a little searching, and if I had your chassis number I could be more certain I had the right part, I found this (41201-80127) part number on a European database, which on amayama show availability in 4 to 6 days at between £529.35 and £535.65 before import duties/tax and shipping.

Hope this helps you out.

Edit, found on Eblag in the UK, click all and any red text.

If you're looking at second hand diffs it does need to be from a 4 speed V8 which are 4.3 ratio. Later models with the 5 speed gearbox and all years of the diesel were a different ratio and not suitable.

If repairing your existing diff I think I ordered 41201-69815 from Dubai when I replaced 4.3's on a previous 100.

Or from Just Differentials (the Nitro's seem like good quality gears and we've had quite a few from JD over the years) you'd want http://www.justdifferentials.com/T8R-430R-NG-p/t8r-430r-ng.htm for the gears. They also sell bearings which you should probably change because broken gears make a lot of swarf that gets everywhere.

Beware that any new gears will have a thicker pinion because they upgraded them so you'll also need a new oil slinger, output flange and dust shield to go with them.

Does your 100 have traction control (ATRAC) ? A 2001 should have in which case it has the stronger 4 pinion carrier already. If it doesn't have traction control then it has the weaker 2 pinion carrier. Either way you'll be spending a fair bit of money and might want to consider putting a locking carrier in. I'd also recommend a solid pinion spacer.

Morning everyone :) and thanks for the replies .
My word Jon ,you seem to know your onions :)
I have no idea what the traction control is ?, however I have ordered a crown and pinion plus a bearing kit through Milners, just got to wait for the gears to come from Japan.
Jon could I send you a pm and possibly have a phone conversation as I need someone to help put it together so its right.
Regards Ian
