Going to have a bash at servicing the 80 and wanted to know if any other parts are needed beyond air, oil and fuel filters plus oil? Its a 4.2 diesel with the 24 valve engine.

Thanks

Depends on mileage really as to the service interval. Might need all diff oils, gearbox, timing belt etc etc. Brake fluid change, coolant ....

Missed this bit!

Its on 136,000 give or take 100 miles

if you are unsure when the drivetrain oils were last done I would "baseline" the lot.
diffs, gearbox, transfere box. every 40000 miles. diffs, front in particular, more often if your 80 likes water.

I change the engine oil and grease the UJs every 5000 miles. genuine fuel filter every other oil change.

timing belt every 60000 miles. I change the auxiliary belts every other timing belt change. not had one fail yet.

again, if your unsure when the coolant was last changed give this a flush and fresh coolant.

check the wheel bearings for play.

Cheers for the info,

Might be a bit more than I am confidant to do... @Trevor - are you about in the next few weeks? :)

If Trevor isn't I'm sure we can help you with this. It's genuinely easy stuff.

Thanks, would be great to learn how to do this. I have an indoor space to work on it, basic tools and a 4 tonne jack. Are there any specialist tools I need?

You don't need much more than that. There's a few bits and pieces that make it easier but overall, it's just nuts and bolts. Things like inner axle oil seals require a bit more knowledge but normal oil and filter drops plus timing belt is simple.

Sounds good,

I'll dig through the service history and work out what needs replacing.

Cheers

Most important, use genuine Toyota filters and T belt. There are fake filters around I believe and they’re not expensive even from Mr T.

The filters I stock are from a UK main dealer.

Fuel filter might be done if no record there. Toyota offered me a genuine one at a ridiculous price or a "baseline one". I used the later but it was smaller than the one I took off.

Thanks for the replies everyone, heading up to Trevor's to do a day of work with him this week. As a precaution everything is being baselined so I can keep on top of service intervals etc.
