after leaving my cruiser stood for a week while i was on holiday, i returned to find the batteries dead.

i charged them up and they seemed ok for a few days, but then yesterday morning it wouldnt start, so after jump starting it and turning up late for work, i charged them all night.

come out this morning and it wouldnt start, batteries completely dead! so no work for me today now.

so im going to go and buy some new batteries, but im not sure what to get?

any recommendations?

i was thinking some deap cycle optima ones, but not sure whether yellow or red ones would be best?

Dude, there's been loads of discussion about batteries on here & one common theme seems to be that the Optima ones are way over rated & way over priced...

A lot of folk have said that Toyota themselves are good for batteries; I got a pair of Yuasa batteries for Muxley when his failed for less than a ton & they have been fine.

Had I looked into it a little further I might have gone for the ones Matt Wright got but I can't think of the bloomin name just now; I have one as the third battery in Muxley too

NUMAX!!!

cheers Gav.

im off to a landrover shop in a bit with my boss so he can spend £3500 on a sus lift kit. :o
hopefully they wil have some decent batteries there.

so optima's are worth avoiding then, they do seem expensive at £150+ each. but i want to buy some decent ones that are going to last and stand up to the pressures of winching.

Its like everything I guess Ben - someone will be along in a mo to tell you that Gav is a t055er & that Optimas are the best thing since sliced bread... I have no experience of them but have read more negatives about them than any other battery.

Hey, have fun on your day out - don't be distracted by your location!!!

Optimas are fantastic if you need a battery to cope with heavy vibration want to mount it any which way

But

They arnt the best for capacity
Not ideal for heavy winching loads
And are dam expensive

I'd buy regular batteries

Also if you have 2 batteries connected together in parallel one will flatten the other, you might only need one, but it is best to fit 2

I've had three Optima's fail on me now, two yellow and one red, I've now gone for two Numax CXV-X 1000 Amp and so far they've been fine  and about half the price of the Optima's. I've still use a yellow top as the leisure battery, but if that fails I will get another Numax.

The best batteries are lith/ion but at £5,500 each they are a bit OTT.

I replaced the battery in Vivs Shogun with a genuine Mitsubishi at approx £60. For the LC I bought a pair of Lucas cased units from The Battery Shop in Hay Mills Birmingham, again about £35 each from memory. I have a friend who bought a red top and regretted it.

thanks guys.

i went to the landrover place and my boss spent £5000 on a suspension lift kit, and that didnt include any radius or trailing arms or panhard rods! :o

they also didnt have any batteries in stock, so i still need to purchase some. can any one recommend a supplier?

Before changing them try a specialist battery shop for a test and overnight charge.

I had a flat battery on my john deere everytime i went to use it, turned out the starter was knacked, had that rebuilt and batteriy fine since!
