Big Bertha the Blue Cruiser

More progress on the front panel, few more hours and it will be done.

I like your Work Hayden..Its time consuming but with results like that, Rewarding .. If iv managed to get a continuous bead of weld over 50mm with out spatter or push back id be a Happy man.. Crack On:thumbup:

Cheers bud your right though takes hours but nice when it goes well. I use a Lincoln electrical MIG 180 really nice welder has a good wire feed into the touch. As you mentioned spatter and push back can be a pain, the best tip I was told about is to use copper. If you put a piece of flat copper behind what your welding it acts as a heat sink and if you blow through you can actually keep on welding.. The weld pool will sort of flout on top of the copper, great for filling gaps. A piece approximately 5mm thick works well.

This is what I mean, exaggerated gap but principle is the same. The weld doesn't stick to the copper.

I bought some 60mm extended shackles but know I'm a bit worried about vibration etc After doing a bit of Google searching I think I need some caster shims to correct the propshaft angle.

Don't suppose anyone has any experience on this?

Really nice work happening Hayden! With the extended shackles, if they're extended in length then the lift would be 50% of the extra length. Because on a leaf spring it would have to be equal length from the centre bolt under the axle on both sides of the spring. I fitted a body lift on my 60 which gave the space for the bigger tyres.

I've also gained some inspiration from your welding examples etc and thanks for sharing mate!

Cheers for the comments guys that's interesting about the shackles. Found some Info on the probshaft angles. Some thing I will need to address when full weight is on the springs and can measure the angle of it. Body lift know seems like a more straight forward ruote.

Looking good Hayden... some decent progress there Mate.. Is that a two pack paint your using there..Were the swivels pitted at all?.... Looks good

Made some lower dash cover panels as I didn't like how it's quite exposed under there. You can see the blower unit etc.

I th hope this wasn't just because parts were missing

Underside has been blasted plus my first Toyota inspired injury. Whilst welding the sound deadening inside caught on fire by all the wirring, pated it out in a bit of a panic. Then the hot tare landed on my arm. Lovely.
