We picked up our Land Cruiser on Saturday and drove it back home after filling the tank from empty. It came with a Brink towbar so we didn't have to add that. Yesterday we towed our 2 tonne caravan for the first time. Needless to say it was effortless and made an easier job compared to the Hyundai. There was less sway at normal driving, much easier to hitch, easier to add the towing mirrors. We are getting our normal sway however when going over 60 mph and being passed by vans. Being that the towbar can take 140kg downward force we can play around with the 75-80kg a little that we have at the moment. We have a local weighbridge that we use so the weights can be accurate. Train weight is 5.1 tonne. We have noticed that the lockup converter maybe be standard. Has anyone added a programmer to improve the transmission? If so which one is recommended? We are looking at the ECON LOCK that is plugged into the OBD at the moment that is an Austrian company. Also after reading the manual there is a procedure, when attaching a trailer, to adjust the AHC. The manual has no reason for this. Does anyone have any idea what this is for? After towing the caravan for 5 miles the whole outfit appeared and remained level at the weighbridge so I was thinking the AHC procedure was to keep the 200 level. After a good look under the car, there is a lot of underseal flaking off with surface rust especially to the rear. So we are considering jet washing underneath, treating the rust and applying a protective layer. Does anyone have any ideas about the best way to do this? Obviously our Land Cruiser has not seen a lot of off road action because there are no large amounts of dried mud stuck up in the chassis. Under the steering column below the knee air bag there is a removable plastic panel with a MAP plug wired to it. Does anyone know what this is for? After searching the web and manuals, we have no answer. Extra cables had been added to the driver's side battery. We were thinking electrical modifications had been made but tracing them through revealed it is a direct feed to the trailer wiring relay. Is it always the case that British sold 2oo have 24v starting? After reading a bit, Toyota appeared to provide 24v starting to those colder countries of the world. Is it easy to add the coolbox to the centre console if the vehicle wasn't fitted with it?

You'd think they would include a full tank when you buy a 200 Series.

I can't help you with any of the electrical gubbins on the V8 - not many people on here are lucky enough to have one, especially not in the UK - but for underside treatment call Krown in Dudley. Countless posts and endorsements if you search this forum and they normally give a discount to members.

+1 on what Jacob said. On a vehicle of this value I'd want to get the rust sorted while it's still relatively light and done thoroughly and professionally with a proven, lasting product.

This is something i would personally have thoroughly checked out by a reputable auto electrician. The danger of a fire is covered on a thread Absolutely Gutted in Morocco page 11 post #219 an excellent post by starCruiser with others making a great contribution.

We found a specialist in West Sussex that cleans off all the chassis, applies jenolite rust kill and adds a 3M product to act as an underseal. It is a lot of money to get it done but this is my last ever car, holds its value and is worth it considering the condition. It is black. We can't find a damaged panel anywhere. We have been looking for a V8 diesel for over a year now. They are out there but they are rare. The important thing to remember is that this model is still being sold new in New Zealand and Australia so parts are going to be readily available for the V8s for years. Also we don't expect this car to depreciate anytime soon. Not something that can be said of most cars. The extra wiring will be checked that it is definitely going to the trailer supply. A manufacturers tag is on the wiring in the boot which is probably the kit installed in the car. Today we found Toyotaoriginal. com and Toyota-europe.epc for on line parts. Toyotaoriginal was especially easy to buy a few genuine parts like the odd bolts and fixings. We think when a bash plate was taken off for an oil change a bolt was sheared so its out with the WD40 to try and get the broken bolt out.

We got Techstream running tonight and have got the windows opening and closing on the keyfob. The MOT record states an underseal was put on the car at some so it has been protected before. The company in West Sussex steam clean before surface treatment to reduce the amount of moisture applied and degreases where necessary.
