Can anyone recommend someone to rebuild my 40 series axles?

Hello All,
I have a 1967 fj45 which I want to restore. I have another project on the go before I get to it but wanted to get some bits and pieces ready in the mean time. I have a disc brake front axle from a later fj / hj 45 which I want to use.

Does anyone know who I could get to rebuild it? I don't want to send it to someone who isn't specialist and will just clean it, grease it, put it back together with instant gasket and blow it over with a rattle can! I want to make sure the insides are sorted. I can sort the cleaning / cosmetics.

Should I be expecting to change just the bearings, seals gaskets or more?

Any advice welcomed.
thanks
Simon

Hi Simon. Welcome to the club. :icon-biggrin:

Westcoat 4x4 centre specialise in LandCruisers, and do some really nice work. :icon-wink:

http://westcoastoffroad.co.uk/toyota-landcruiser-kzj-71/

Paul the chap who runs it is very knowledgeable and helpful, and if he answers the phone you may end up chatting for an hour or 2. :icon-cool:

Theres a women who answers the phone sometimes and shes very unhelpful, so really you need to speak to
Paul.

Only other point I would make, is find out how long it will take them and try and get assurances it will be done on time.
There was a chap on here who took a 70 series in to have an engine conversion done, a year later he still didnt have his truck back. :icon-rolleyes:

Oh one other thing............................

:banana-gotpics: of your truck please. :icon-cool:

Ben,

I do believe the engine conversion is sitting there waiting to be collected, but the owner has gone awol !

How about Julian ? Does he do that sort of work?

Pete

Pete im glad its now ready for collection, but it did still take at least a year to get to that stage. :?

Here is my 45 when it arrived. I bought it from Australia with a few useful spares (disc brake axles + pedal box and booster, PAS set up, OME suspension, Small block chevy adaptor kit etc).

Looked a bit sorry for itself, as you can see, when it arrived with flat tyres, no drive, no brakes, steering disconnected and loaded up to over 2++ tonnes: 1) the driver of the car transporter dropping it off wasn't impressed and 2) my neighbours thought it had been abandoned on our road by the pikies and were about to report it to the police!

It came with a tray but I wanted the original look so got 2x LPB beds as well which you can see loaded on the back.

All in all its very solid as you may imagine. (although I need to get on with it as it won't stay that way for long now its in the UK parked outside).

Will contact the west coast contact (I'm near crewe so not that far to southport), although it doesn't really matter as I can take the axles anywhere really.

who is this Julian you speak of? Any other ideas?

Thanks

Hi Simon,
Last time we spoke you were expecting the truck from Oz but glad to see it here now. Axles are pretty straight forward to do yourself but you'll need the 52mm spanner for the bearings and a fisherman's spring thing (don't know the correct name) and patience.
If you're planning installing a V8 , disc brakes etc yourself, then an axle rebuild should be no problem. The rebuild kits come with all the seals, bearings etc.
If you want I'll talk you through - by email - as i'm a lot further away than I was
Regards,
