Hey everyone.

Just new to modifying my old 60s with 250000kms. I have heard conflicting advice about putting a turbo on it. What information or experience do people have that i could take on board.

Beyond this what can i do to maximise my power and get it running its best before i consider a turbo. Can the old cars be dyno tuned perhaps?

Cheers guys

Hi Dan and welcome.
In the past I have had a multitude of 60's, five of which had after market turbo kits with or without an intercooler. In my opinion there is everything to be gained from a turbo conversion and nothing lost.
It transforms the 60 series, it will go up any hill in top gear and keep up with modern traffic like a modern truck. At your mileage it wont hurt it at all, the engine is very robust and lowly stressed. When fitted the maximum fuel control can be adjusted to suit and 130-140 BHP can be expected.

Thank mate.

That sounds promising. Is there anything that I would want to look at or do maintainance on that would improve my chances to avoid damage? And is there any turbo specs that i would want to look for or stear clear from perhaps any models that work well

Hi Dan,
I dont know the situation regarding the availability of new/ s/h kits where you are. If new are available, and your budget ran to it I'd have new. If they aren't available then a s/h kit is your option but I'd have the turbo overhauled at a specialist before fitting.
I've sold a few of these kits to other forum members and they've been pleased with the results. If you get a kit with an intercooler then even better.
Keep us informed.

I doubt you'd see any damage, I hav'nt

Hi Dan,

Did you get your 2H turbo'd I've just managed to get my hands on a decent 60 in Zimbabwe and might be tempted to turbo it..

Andy is undoubtedly the guru on 60 series trucks.

My 40 has a 2h fitted and originally I was thinking of a turbo but the engine's history/mileage, etc are a complete unknown and at its first oil change soon after we got it I found piles of oil crud inside the motor so, after extensive cleaning and flushes, decided that I look at other ways of helping it along, especially up hills.
The biggest improvement was throwing out the old exhaust manifolds and fitting headers 2 x 3 into 2 x 2 and into one. We live in the mountains in Spain and she performs admirably and has done for the past 20 odd years.

Regards,

Rodger

Thanks Rodger,

I'll wait and see how the car is whenI get over to Zim.

Yes most definitely you can turbo a 2H with a few miles on , the trick is not to go for big boost from my research and limited experience. I put a c5 turbo on mine with a front mounted intercooler and dialled in fuel pump and injectors, she spins the wheels from a standing start and goes fairly well.

I've still got the turbo I took off my 100 series so I might stick that on..
