The clutch has finally started slipping slightly after being at the top of the pedal for ages so it’s time for a new one. I intend to source the bits and either try and fit it myself or, reluctantly, take it to a local garage or clutch specialist. I was going with OEM despite the cost or is there one as good but cheaper. Roughtrax do an Aisin clutch http://www.roughtrax4x4.com/aisin-h...3-piece-clutch-kit-diesel-300mm-24-valve.html. Any good? Aisin do make parts for Toyota although it doesn't say this clutch is OEM. I see Milners do an Exedy brand (not heard off them) although it's currently out of stock. Any recommendations please?

Oem :)
im still on original clutch at 275000 miles, i bought a full genuine clutch kit including both bearings about six months ago to keep on the shelf for when it does go.
cant be long now. surely?....

I am good with Aisin 3 part, but remember to replace the spigot bearing in the rear of the crankshaft, and for a few quid more do the slave cylinder.

Fitted a Delphi Clutch in the GS and am very pleased with its feel and take up.

Valeo has been fine so far.

I bought this kit for my 81. If it's the hi torque one then it has the 100 series pressure plate and 80 series clutch disk and thrust bearing. When I put it all together I found that the clutch slave cylinder pin was about 15mm too short! I made a new one and it all works well.
It didn't come in a printed picture box, it was just plain cardboard boxes! Only thing I noticed really.

How many miles on yours TP ? There have been a few failures of none OEM clutches on here. Clutch makers supply many customers who might well demand different qualities. Toyota always give me a discount just because I ask. Usually 10% but sometimes 20%. Horrible job getting the box in and out. You need a concrete level floor ideally and a trolley jack. I'm getting ready for slipping at 150K miles ?

Just noticed up 120k. I know the previous owner towed a caravan and it looks like the tow bar has been on a long time. You have to ‘try’ to make it slip by booting it in 4/5th or maybe 3rd up a steep hill and even then the revs only climb 2-300 rpm or so before it fully engages. Driving normally it’s ok so I don’t think it’s on the verge of failing but I don’t want to risk it with the caravan on the back come summer. I intended to use a garage in town with ramps which you can hire for the day but I’ve just found out it’s closed down so may well be a dealer job yet.

Exedy are American and the 80 is a light truck by American standards .

I test my clutch by getting rpm up to max torque at about 3500 rpm in 3rd then left foot brake with full throttle and see if engine stalls. It did a few days ago.

I’ve just been looking through the fsm for clutch checks and the release point check is: “Without depressing the clutch slowly select rev gear until the gears contact. Gradually depress the clutch and measure the stroke distance from the point at which the noise stops (release point) up to the full stroke end position” Not a very mechanically sympathetic test!

Also tried the clutch booster test, which failed, then I realised I don’t have a clutch booster:wtf:.

There's a mechanical booster under the dashboard comprising a powerful spring and lever which goes over centre when you press the clutch pedal making the advanced part of the travel easier.. I think that is what it is.

Mine has the second servo and extra vacuum resovoir, clutch very difficult to press down unless engjne running once vacuum is depleted .

That’s the one pictured in the fsm and the one I was trying to test. When the results weren’t as expected I decided to look under the bonnet! Novice, complete novice.
