Denso Fuel Pump Service

Always something eh! That's older cars for you I guess. With my offroad Samurai, I slowly fixed minor faults in the first two years of ownership but ended up with a totally reliable car that never let me down.

Good luck with the tank clean out - probably a good time to do it Dervis - then at least you will have eliminated that area from the investigation and set yourself up nicely for the future. Good luck.

Thanks Geoff always a process but thats the way these things work out. I'm sure the vehicle will benefit just intresting to how much as a reward.

Guys having been back from the UK and some time testing the car. The fuel pump thankfully has been wonderfully rebuilt.

•No rattles or vibration,
•Black smoke underload hardly noticeable with no bad smells.
•Tuned internally very nice and quite.
•Just needed tuning for the kick down and idle adjustment with A/C for next week left.
•Performance levels increased.

More on economy and top end above 70MPH to come.

Thanks

Your wise decision to take it to a denso specialist will pay dividends. The pump should last a very long time now.

Yes Frank the Denso guy is the grandson of the owner that’s retired now but was not really suitable for many years prior as he was learnings the trade whilst training abroad.

This is the thirds time having taking it out. The first two were small serviceable parts and seals nothing to what’s been done now. This is because they simply don’t have the knowledge or expertise to fix it.

The Denso store with its fuel pump machine cost 185,000 old Cypriot pounds (£280,000) before they entered into Europe.

Guys quick update. After driving a few weeks retuned the idle for 725rpm and adjusted the air compressor vacuum setting in the fuel pump ready for regasing soon.

Car runs smooth and thankfully has transformed the driving experience to premium now. Improvements in fuel economy noticed without measure.

Overall been a great refurbishment highly recommend for high millage cruisers.

Sounds great Dervis. Did they say what was replaced within the pump? Toyota say any problems with the pump won’t be the pump itself but the delivery valves. Interested to find what was changed as I suspect my Delivery valves to be causing vibration at low rpm.

Richard I changed a part or two before quite expensive and changed pretty much everything else possible this time round. I’ll get a better idea when I see he guy at some point for an update.

Yes the vibration is to worn out part/s as to mine were the same. Delivery issues to injectors and return itomising were out. No more black smoke on kickdown.

You can’t beat new Richard.

Thanks

Sounds sweet Dervis. Very nice. Like the work for the intercooler and exhaust too.

Thank you Richard surprising how much a difference it makes having everything running optimally. Just waiting to change the front end on the turbo now for better turbo flow.

On the turbo front Dervis, is it possible to alter the orientation of the boosted air outlet or is it fixed pointing upwards?

That’s a small mod Richard I’m yet to see how it gonna be. From what I know an adapter will be made to house the existing air induction at the front to the newer front turbo case. Just been a delay in getting the correct fan blade otherwise we had the case already.

Thanks

I was just wondering if the front ‘snail’ of the standard turbo was pegged to point in a certain direction or whether it could be rotated. Just idle curiosity really.

Tbh Richard when I get the fan blade it’s a pretty easy job so I’m told so will have to wait until then to know better.

It’s really a cheap turbo upgrade from the 100 series model so should yield better performance.

Ok Dervis, thanks. I’ll wait and see.
