Engine upgrades

Cwar, even I got excited to see a post from you on this one Si...

Hurry up WC4x4... :p

I am interested in this too now as our 78 really struggled up some hills going along the A303 today

After reading this I'm glad I held out till I found a 3L

There must be adequate demand for a conversion kit soon!

If I find work slack in the depths of winter I'd be tempted to buy a cheap 2.4 and a 200tdi lump... Wife might not be very happy.

I'm impressed with my truck a LJ would make a great trialer with a decent motor in it

I've been keeping my eye out for a suitable Lexus, cant find anything for less than a couple of grand! Even allowing for selling off bits, which won't impress the missus, its still looking like an expensive option now.

Anyone got any inside info on a good source for the engines?

Pete

What Lexus are you looking at? I've seen a few early '90's LS400's on autotrader for between £600 and £1k....

I've got a few there now - I had ticked diesel instead of petrol, which explains the poor results up to £1000.....

Its the LS400 I have been looking at.

this is a LJ78 that i swapped over to a PZ+TURBO+intercooler

this is the swap being performed:

these are a couple pics of it on a run:
(never mind, can't figure out how to load it from my computor.)
pics of it on a run just after i finished it:

how about a couple short vids instead?

you can here the engine well in this vid, it is the 4 door with the PZ clip on the front:

the photographer is sitting on the roof of the (PZ)LJ78 and you can here it well again...:

a friend stuck a HZ into his LJ78:

in a nutshell, the PZ installed into the LJ78 makes for a rocking good ride. decent on fuel (better than the 2.4L), quicker and lugs excellently.

probably too late for your application but thought if anyone else wanted an option to take a look...
cheers

Hi, just wondering if someone with Lexus V8 conversion can share some knowledge.
I'm interested to know if you are happy with conversion, how did the conversion change your insurance (money) and also, how much road tax do you pay now.

PS, is the mpg's the same as the old 2.4 diesel engine?

Did Simons ever get sorted?

He must have it back by now!

Last time I spoke to Paul at WCO, he said the truck was finished but had just been standing there with no word from Si for months... Strange goings on...

Just a thought the 1UZ engines come with an autobox as standard that I think is the same box as found in 80's & 120's might make life a lot easier come conversion time. Swap the back ends over to fit a transfer box to them. The 1UZ ECU also controls the gearbox. 6 wires with power & its running. Also of note the LS400's have clearance engines so even if the timing belt pops off its a clearance engine ;)

I'm fairly up there with Toyota wiring, I've just wired up a Toyota 1JZ into a Nissan this week.
