Extra air intake pipe on LJ70 TD2.4

Anyone here knows the purpose of the extra airintake pipe in a LJ70 TD2.4 pictured here?



The end of the extra pipe is close-of.

I remember mulling this over with an old mechanic when I had my old one. We decided it must be some sort of expansion tube although neither of us had any idea what for.

With the air box that close to the turbo there is no room for a resonator so my guess is - its a resonator ?

Never thought about that, seen the resonator pipes between air-filter box & turbo in large trucks, though not as a side pipe connected to the main line.

The turbo makes a nice sound in my LJ70, though i think the CT20 is up for replacement in the next year as I suspect it's sending a bit too much oil towards the engine occasionally.

Took it off. It was a pain in the ... when taking the air cleaner out.
