fj40 1976 rear hatch struts

Suggestions for replacement of both rear window lift struts on my 1976 FJ40.
They do not need to be OME, just fit and work. Gas filled? Or manual?
Ideas, opinions, suggestions.

I've seen one guy open up the original struts and replace the internals with modern gas struts. Keeps the looks but works.
