Fuel temp sensor leak

I have a fuel leak on my 94 LC Prado (kzj78). I have a 1kzte engine and the leak seems to be coming from my fuel temp sensor on top of the pump. I saw a thread on here from a few years back of someone fixing it with plumbers tape. I tried to do the same and it helped a little but there’s still a leak. I have this metal plate under the sensor that I haven’t seen on any other pump and I think it might be causing part of the leak. Can I remove the plate? Anyone have any insight on how to fix this without removing the sensor or pump?
