After 10 years a rivet in the governor has worked loose in the engine of my Honda generator , damaging the plastic cam sprocket & snapping off the little finger on the conrod - a small piece that splashes oil.I'm mad busy , working away from home & the workshop it's in just want to bolt in a 400€ Chinese copy..I'm looking at taking it elsewhere or fixing it myself but meanwhile I've spotted a

I'm pretty disillusioned with Honda , the engine is unmarked inside hardly any carbon on the piston every think else looking pretty new , the rivet seemingly a,self destruct mechanism.Any other recommendations apart from the Hyundai?

I’ve never heard of anything like this ever with any engine let alone a Honda. Having said that nothing in this world is infallible. There may have been a mod on that part. It’s almost certainly repairable if it hasn't resulted in major damage.
What size (KvA) is it?

You could always let the workshop install the Chinese one. After a year of hard use they’ll be begging for their Honda back.

Their inverter generators are excellent pieces of kit. If you need more than 3KvA they do a 7KvA which is clearly twice what you have with 5yr warranty and not that much more than the 3KvA. If you only want the extra capacity for starting, the 3 KvA (in fact all) will deliver starting Power well. They even run welders with ease.

It's main job is the washing machine , that only has a cold feed & power tools plus my table saw/planer - 1500 W .my understanding is the heating element is 3000 W.
I've been looking at this https://hyundaipower.shop/gasolina/...000114.html#googtrans(es|en)#googtrans(es|en)
The Honda weighs 58KG so I can get it into the back if the 95 with some help & even move it around strapped into a wheelbarrow.

If your washing machine runs from a Schuko plug it’s likely to be 10A max or 2.2 Kw total. There should be a rating plate on each machine and for water heating you wouldn’t need to go over the rating. Your table saw/ planer on the other hand have high starting loads most likely, depending on size, pro quality etc. The inverters score by not needing to be oversized so (with a bit of checking) the EU 30i should do the job admirably. I think the Hyundai will be simply one of the badged ‘Craftsman’ ‘Suntom’ ‘Kipor’ ‘SGS’ types. However it’s price point suggests otherwise.

Thinking about this, post up a pic or two of your Honda. The reason I say this is that it’s an odd KvA size for a Honda Generator. There were many made up units with Honda engines made for site tools which were pretty good but then there were generators made by Honda. There have also been some rip offs of the Honda brand which were nothing like Honda quality. Given what you’ve said as the failure I’m curious in case you’ve got one of these.

The Honda inverter generators aren’t cheap (you’re right, I’m not kidding) but you’ll struggle to find anything better and they retain their resale value.

Yep it's a schuko plug. The repair shop has finally given me a ball park price for fixing it & I'm looking at 400€ minimum , 300 for the parts.

Last week I gained access to the parallel universe that is Costco. One of the weirdest things in there were a couple of pallets of £1k Honda generators tucked away in the bread aisle.
