Hello. Thanks for having me on board, especially as I don't actually have a Land Cruiser at the moment.

I currently drive a 2002 Land Rover Discovery 2 which I have owned for nearly 4 years and which is used for green-laning and when the weather gets snowy, icy or very wet. It's a very good car but reliability isn't it's forte, although it has got a lot better as time has gone on as all the problem areas have slowly got sorted out. I have looked in the past at Land Cruisers but a friend in the business said the new ones aren't as robust as they used to be, anymore than the new Land Rover Defender compares to an old 'proper' Defender. However, when the new model (the 250 I believe it is known as) was first announced, indicating it had returned a bit more to its roots, it peaked my interest, so I thought I would join up and see what people had to say about it.

I will have a rootle around and see what I can find. If I have any questions I'll be back.

It crossed my mind as it seems to have the off-road capabilities of the Discovery with some of the modern refinements of the F-Pace and, presumably, the reliability one associates with Toyota, not that I have ever owned one. However, it turned out to be a lot more expensive than first hoped. Also they appear to be a bit thin on the ground. I have sat in one as a result of a purely unplanned but fortuitous visit to the local dealer, but it wasn't for sale (the dealer wouldn't say why) and I wasn't allowed to drive it. They also said that may well be the last one they ever get. I certainly wouldn't buy any car without a test drive first and that seems highly unlikely at the moment.

Interesting you say that actually, when I was at my local dealership looking at a Hilux initially - I noticed the 250 on the forecourt. I asked about it, and they also said something along the lines of "I don't know why we have it, we're not allowed to sell it".

I cannot for the life of me remember why they said they couldn't, since I knew it was well out of my price range!

I have however, seen a few 'new' (maybe 1k miles) models for sale on Autotrader, presumably ex demo models or the like.

If you're looking for a new or even a 2nd hand Landcruiser try RHAS-INTERNATIONAL.COM they import various models at various prices. l was looking to get a double cab & they were recommended to me by 4x4works from whom l buy parts.

Thanks. I will take a look at both Autotrader and RHAS to see what they have.

If it's their demonstrator, all dealerships are not allowed to sell theirs before 2026.

It's where high end car dealers ordered one and if they got one ask a premium price for something virtually unobtainable.
